Intel Core Ultra 9 285k 'Arrow Lake' Discussion/News ("15th gen") on LGA-1851

I'm not an expert in terms of the exact dynamics of purchasing power of both Intel/AMD, though the metric below seems important:

Any idea why the Intel change is +80% on the 5 year marks

The mobile version of Arrow Lake, called Lunar Lake, has had some benchmarks supposedly leaked and it's looking very good.

Lunar Lake is showing 50% higher performance per watt compared to Meteor Lake. if it's the same for desktop, Arrow Lake will be a beast

What makes it even more impressive is the benchmark was CB R23 which is a multithreaded test and the leaker says the CPU has no hyperthreading, Meteor Lake has HT but Lunar Lake does not, and still it beats Meteor Lake by 50% with fewer total threads, thanks to Lunar Lake having a new P and E core architecture which must have a big IPC uplift

No one knows what any of this means because there are too many lakes.
 
AMD Ryzen has multi threading and a larger cache though.
All that matters is performance at the end of the day, not who has the most cores, cache or highest frequency.

I still think it's a tall ask for Arrow Lake to beat Raptor Lake (or Raptor Lake refresh) in games - as frequency is king here and the new process will not be clocking at 6.2 Ghz.

That said, Arrow Lake will be a huge improvement in power efficiency for Intel, possibly matching or beating Zen5.

If it doesn't beat Zen 5 Intel have problems give that its on TSMC 3nm, Zen 5 is on 4nm.

Its like Intel are betting the house on this.

Would be abit of a game changer to be able to do 6ghz at half the power cost, here's dreaming though...
 
The large cache is something that's really helped in gaming, some games really take advantage of this. Hoping Intel will follow this route too at some point as its already proven to be effective.

Its not as simple as just increasing the cache size, a larger cache = a larger surface area = higher latency.

AMD's large Cache works because its 3D stacked.
 
Zen 5 is cheaper to make and it doesn't need a new motherboard to upgrade to.

So if Intel want to take back market share, and not just sell to die hard Intel fans, very few of those left it need's to be more power efficient and faster, because its also going to be more expensive, or needs to be if Intel are going to turn a profit now paying TSMC to use the best tech, and it looks like being much larger.

What new P and E cores? Seems very likely Intel are going with a continuation of reworking and releasing between AMD’s parts.

We don't really know much more than their names and that Lion Cove does not have hyerthreading. Leaks have for some time stated Lion Cove was a significant new architecture for Intel aiming 50% higher performance core for core

You know Intel’s strategy isn’t new but rinse and repeat until 2026-27? Intel have already told us what’s coming.

Very interested to see how this will perform in terms of overall performance, perf per watt and also thermal performance. Roll on leaks!
 
I will be interested to see if they have been able to create a more efficient CPU in terms of its power use and whether they will offer a greater level of cache to help with frame rates
 
Was always hoping that Arrow lake would be on LGA1700 but alas! It's gonna be a difficult decision to swap to this or AMD when the time comes as i'll need to swap boards anyway.
