Yes but you can always go with MSI over Asus or Asrock over GB for your next purchase.

The AMD are not bad at all if you never run a benchmark, probably few casual users will notice the difference.

I believe it. Even for rookie like myself getting my 2500k to 5Ghz is extremely easy I imagine if intel want chips to oc to 5Ghz they will.

All the 5GHz targets are more or less speculations. I have not seen anywhere in Intel PR material specific frequencies being mentioned, only enhancements.

Base clock of 4.0GHZ and Boost of 4.4GHZ is what I would class as "specific frequencies".

Will buy a 4790K IF...

a) it works on Z87

and

b) retails at under £300

Was thinking of waiting until Haswell-E to make the jump but if the 4790k can get near 5ghz I'll probably go for that instead. My 2500k can just about make 4.4ghz but is a bit unstable so would be a decent performance boost.

I meant specific target overclocking frequencies.

Following the trend with the other Haswell Refresh chips I see no reason to sell them at different price of i7 4770K.

Think Gibbo already said 4790K will be about £25 more than 4770K. Good deal imho.

I think he meant the 4790K would £25 more than the vanilla 4790. It'll be close to the 4770K price.

Yeah, I understood the same from what I've read. Anyway, £10-15 are not a deal breaker at this price point. You are very far from any 6/12 processor and very far in terms of performance potential from any other processor in the market, so the i7 really has no competition. Regarding if its Haswell refresh, Haswell or even Ivy Bridge.

Your suggesting AMD's top CPU ( 9590) is in anyway comparable to a 4790K? Really? I'd suggest another hobby if this is your opinion.

Bear in mind your posting on a overclocking forum, why you mention casual users here is beyond me. At this point I'll just assume you like to type nonsense for fun.

Or wind your neck in and talk to people properly. There are plenty of people on here who don't just run superpi on a loop for kicks or even bench. Tbh he's right in regards to normal usage. What you''re doing buying a top range cpu for normal usage is a different matter but his statement is correct.

'Top range' cpu would be an extreme edition. Top 'mainstream' is where I'd place the 4790K.

The 4790k is by far the better choice compared to the FX9590. I'd never recommend AMD's top performer (FX9590) to anyone, would you?

The Intel CPU would be almost the same price but would completely outperform in 99% of the tasks that most of us here would use it for. It would also run far cooler, consume far less electricity. There really is no option in this price bracket.

Not on that Mobo you will not, its a different socket (1155 vs 1150).
