So it runs cooler even with the Stock OC. For people building now the 4790K is a better option than 4770K. Not sure about people already on 4770K, me included. I might just hold out for Broadwell before getting a new chip.

Good to see lower temps though.
 
My 4770k is at 1.27v and 4.5GHz 24/7 with an H80. It gets to mid/high 70s in temps at max load. I really wanted DC to give 5GHz+ on this type of cooler with temps in the same region as I have now. I think this is looking unlikely.

Still finding the sweet spot for this one but it looks as though I need 1.35 to hit 4.5GHz doh

Don't see any point in delidding this as it's not temps holding me back
 
but for the risk, it's not worth it.

I don't want to go above 1.35v and up to that point temps only reach 60 degrees while gaming.
 
Hmmm I am still in 2 minds. That pcper review doesn't seem too great tbh. My 4770K is doing 4.4 at 1.264v and the cores are all getting to low to mid-70's on a custom 240mm radiator loop. This is with auto-overclock features applied on Maximus VI motherboard, so maybe would be able to lower volts a bit.

Seems relatively decent by all accounts. Will need to read up on manually overclocking and see how far I can push it in next couple weeks. I have a 4790K on pre-order, but if I could get 4.6 or even 4.7 stable out of the 4770 I would defo cancel.

Edit to add those temps are on prime95 torture test. Just played some Arkham Origins and core temps were about 58 degrees.

Yes, up from 3.5Ghz base to 4Ghz base, with turbo increasing from 3.9 to 4.4Ghz.

But even at that, my chip is happily doing 4.4Ghz as it stands, so not going to see any gains at stock vs my overclocked 4770K. Where it does interest me obviously is the supposed increased overclocking headroom. But the engineering sample reviewed by pcper certainly didn't find it to be hugely more overclockable, although it may well be that every DC chip is capable of hitting 4.6+ which certainly isn't the case with the 4770K. Guess we will need to see once these are introduced in to the wild.

If I was brave enough, I would de-lid my 4770K and be done with it. But I don't want to break it lol.
 
intel should test/screen each cpu so tht its almost guaranteed to hit 5ghz

other than that its just silicon lottery again,i decent clocking/delidded 4770k will match the dc chips
 
So far we can sum if you got a 4770K already its not worth getting the 4970k. Unless yours is a terrible overclocker or needs very high voltage.
Ill be getting it without a doubt as its my final piece to my build. And I would be silly to buy anything else.

Great idea, but I doubt Intel have the man power, but would be great if they did though

Ditto. It's the final puzzle piece to my new build also. Just bring it out already Intel... The wait is killing us:(

yeah they simply wont have time/or manpower to do it

I think they should also do batches without the ihs glued/attached so the consumer can add there own thermal paste ect
 
Be interesting to see what this new thermal paste theyve used is like. The temps on the chip in the pcper article look pretty ok. Need a few more reviews though to get more of a picture.
