I have just bought a I7 4790K chip. I increased the multiplier to 4.6 and its stable under a Antec Kúhler H2O 1250 Liquid CPU Cooler and a MSI Krait board.
Should I leave it at that, or can anyone recommend other BIOS setting(s) I should alter?
Hey guys, i7 4790k on it's way, to be put on a MSI Z97 Gaming board It has been a good few years now since I've built my own system, yes I did the i5. However my question is with these new cpu's and boards, is it still a simple case of putting in the cpu-thermal paste-cooler turning on?
Had my 4790k chip a week but getting the same board (5 version} and new psu end of week. Did you buy an aftermarket cooler? What's good for overclocking?
Pretty much yep, once you get it all up and running, make sure you have the latest bios for the motherboard installed. Early versions tend to overvolt these chips a fair bit. Not a good thing on a chip that already runs quite hot.Hey guys, i7 4790k on it's way, to be put on a MSI Z97 Gaming board It has been a good few years now since I've built my own system, yes I did the i5. Which board do you have? For my one in sig bios 1505 was the one needed as the first one for the 4790k, (1504) had the voltage issue. But mine is an older Z87 board. Id say the last one released prior to the broadwell compatible revision will be the most suitable.Ah really? I'm still on the Asus 2012 bios, when I checked for an update, they only seemed to be an update for broadwell. You think it's worth trying to update?
