***Intel i7 4790K Owners thread***

Will do.

Ah so its the program itself and not my CPU?
Yep, that and due to how haswell chips use poor quality thermal paste below the heatspreader instead of solder. Ive seen temps as high as that on a 4770k and x2 4790k's all at stock. Yet with real bench and the chip in sig at 4.7ghz on 1.300v, 83c max. They are still pretty hot chips in general though.

Ah thats sort of good news then.

I might try some overclocking tomorrow. I suppose if I can get a stable OC in during the hottest day of the year, it should be stable all the time. :)

Does anyone have bios settings for an MSI z97 Gaming 5 board?

I wouldn't mind having a starting point as 4.5GHZ :D

- Savagasam117 still going through page 4 :p

Have u updated the bios and checked cpu voltage?

My asus even with the latest bios trys to run my 4790k at 1.3v at stock speeds.

Now running 4.4ghz @ 1.18v or for benchmarks 4.8ghz at 1.32v

Dont need to mess with any other settings to get that stable either

The MSI boards are a little annoying in that you can't free type the voltage, you have to use the +/- buttons to move up or down. Same for RAM voltage, even though XMP should set that for you.

I have tried to find the answer in this thread already but its a lot to go through so I will ask.

I have not overclocked my 4790K yet and its been in my system for over 7-8months now. Just to see my base temps under load I booted up prime95 and was shocked at the temps. 3 cores hit 100c straight away so I stopped the test.

I thought that it could be my heatsink wasnt seated right, so I took it off, cleaned down my thermal paste and reapplied. I ran the test again and had the same results.

Do I have a bad CPU or something or is prime95 just killing it? I have been out of overclocking for a long time so I am unsure on the right tests. I used to use Intel Burn Test and Prime95, but have things moved on?

Which heatsink ?
