***Intel i7 4790K Owners thread***

Just a quick check on temps if someone wouldn't mind confirming they're normal.

h105 running fans on a silent profile (push only).

Prime95 on small FFT.

Reaches around 69/70 deg average after a few minutes.

Cheers! :D

I'm guessing one of these at 4.7-4.8GHz would see double the performance over my i5 760 at 4GHz in the real world? My system is mostly used for rendering and texture editing but I'm not at the level yet where I'd need a hex core. I only like to update my hardware when I'm sure to see a two fold increase in performance.

Just ordered a 4790K to replace my 4770k. My 4770k is a really poor clocker and runs super hot, will try OCing the new CPU however I would be happy with the standard clocks

New 4790K arrived from OCUK and it's initially better than the previous one doing 4.7ghz with less volts (same stress tests etc).

Well after couple days debating should I no don't should I ect.

I have finally put order in for i7 4790k to replace my i7 4770k.

So I am hoping its a good clocker :)

Over two weeks so far and running great, straight board/CPU swap from a Z77 and 3770k on an old install of Windows 8.1. No crashes, or BSODS so far. 50hrs of gaming, a little video/photo editing, running 24/7 and not a singe issue, easiest board swap I have done so far :)

Was wondering though if anyone else received a damaged 4790k box, I ordered a motherboard at the same time and that didn't have even a tiny dent. Even the large shipping box is in perfect condition, yet my 4790k box was a mess, was concerned when I first seen it incase it was damaged :(

No issues though, runs nice and cool compared to my toasty 3770k.

Your CPU was made in May 2014.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Example: L707A723 —

1st letter or digit = plant code: (Malaysia)
0 = San Jose, Costa Rica
1 = Cavite, Philippines
3 = Costa Rica
6 = Chandler, Arizona
7 = Philippines
8 = Leixlip, Ireland
9 = Penang, Malaysia
L = Malaysia
Q = Malaysia
R = Manila, Philippines
Y = Leixlip, Ireland

2nd digit = Year of production: (2007)
3rd & 4th digits = week: (7th week )
5th digit = Stepping (A or B or C)
6th – 8th digits = lot number: (723)
10th – 13th digits = serialization code (—)

Stepping A = less volt more heat (best with full water cooling).
Stepping B = more volt less heat (best with air or entry water cooling).

Got mine today, L419B531.
First impression was wtf temps...decided to remount my cooler and oops had my H100i backplate on wrong (lol). Went from 50-60c idle to 30-35c. (much better).
Out of the box idle volts are 1.248v under load so going to tweak it a bit.
Hopeing to get a nice OC out of it, but tbh happy with 4.4Ghz turbo out the box ;)

My 4790k thoughts

Been running with the 4790k for a few weeks already, upgraded from a 4770k.

It's good, not great. Temperatures haven't yet breached 67c at full load, very stable, had a few issues with older game titles, nothing major. Glad to be in a dedicated owners thread!:)

My setup is : I7 4790k, Maximus VI Extreme Z87, H105 CPU cooling, DDR3 2400MHz, Obsidian 750D, Silverstone ST1500 PSU, 2 x R295x2's in Quadfire, Samsung SSD's.

I'm finally happy with my second 4790K, settled on 4.7ghz with 1.274v temps under 80c when using handbrake. The first chip wasn't stable at 4.7 with 1.31v.

Would I feel an upgrade going from an i5-4670k that max OCed to 4.2 GHz to the i7 4790k? My main use is gaming + streaming on Twitch. Assuming it works with Z87 mobos

Don't suppose you can let me know what the stock voltages were for the two chips.

Not sure it makes much of any diff, but curious to see how they compare to mine when I play a bit with of.

Mine runs 1.95 at stock.
