Still not sure am willing to risk it again.

Will keep tweaking voltages and seeing if there is anything on that front I can do to bring temps down. Am sure am running some higher than they need to be.

So i picked up another 4970k the other day as I wasn't too happy with the results of my previous one. A bit silly maybe, but meh :)

New chip is batch L419B640 and is a much better chip.
Currently at 4.8ghz with 1.25v

Might be a candidate for delidding though, hits 90c when running IBT under custom water. I know IBT makes chips particularly toasty but there is a 10c temp difference between cores

Woo I cant even do 4.6ghz at 1.27v.

What did you do with other one? Did u sold it or return to shop

@spud just run 5 runs ibt,its very stressfull;) it will simply pass or fail with 5 runs or 1000 runs

I do normally but I forgot to change it this time as it defaults to 10, by the time I notice it hadalready done 3 runs so decided to leave it.

I've still got it at the mo, gonna put it on the member market soon.

Looking at this picture above I don't think I'd want to delid that way. Vice method definately looks the best option, shame I don't have access to a vice  I've delided an AMD Opteron in the past with a blade and that was easy enough but those vrm's on the Haswells are a big worry to me.

Think I am going to settle for 4.75.

Can do that at around 1.27v, and it keeps the cores max around 90 in Aidan extreme. Ok, 90 ain't great, but I think aida is an extreme example.

I would happily have gone up to around 1.35v if could keep the temps down, but that is not going to happen, and don't feel up to de-lidding.

Seems like my memory good for 2500, but is still early days, so got some tweaking to do and will try bring down the various voltages as much as possible, but if it's stable at this, will leave it for a while.

Guys, guys take those torture test temps with a pinch of salt. It's always going to spike up tbh. Don't forget the IHS is thinner on DC.

Do your normal task, asus real bench Or handbrake encode and go by those temps.

Just my input. Some Good chips though. :D

Well my i7 4790k at 4.6ghz crashed even with 1.3volts.

Had my vrin at 2.2v 1.3v cpu 1.2v cache at 4ghz still no go.

My chip run super cool and at stock 4.4 only need 1.175 crazy 4.5 round 1.225 hit and miss. After that crazy volts.

I wont to return this to overclockers I only got it tuesday and swap for another one because clearly this cpu is just terrible and at £259 and ment to be a devils canon just stupid.

Any one know the return policy

If the law say I can then as a customer I will return if not then I wont and have to live it. I ain't doing anything wrong people return stuff every day.

What harm is it doing.

I don't think your able to just simply return opened items anymore. Not sure what the exact ins and outs are now but the distance selling regulations changed last month to prevent consumers abusing it in this way.

I guess you can hope retailers haven't started to implement the new rules yet though.

I phone up ocuk today and said I would like to return it and I told them its been opened and tested. The nice person said that was ok sent me a rma code so again another thumbs up for ocuk.

He did say why you wont to return the cpu I said bad overclocker he told me they have had couple return for same thing. This is why I love ocuk. :)

The moral of the story is your sending back perfectly working goods lol
i didn't think i would have to explain that one to ya. people usually do that when there goods are faulty or doa.

I don't get why people get particularly bothered over people sending stuff back. Its a right as a consumer to be able to do so (at least for now).

The only exception would be when people take the ****, just to "test" something or the likes. Which will inevitably result in us loosing that right, or it being reduced in some capacity.
