***Intel i7 4790K Owners thread***

Mine is an oldie too, but as I didn't pay the 270 or so most seem to be paying I just decided to live with it.

Hoping I'll only be keeping it til Broadwell. Man, I hope Broadwell doesn't disappoint too...

4790k's are just 4770ks which have been cherry picked, additional powerphases? have been added on, and apparently better TIM used. Its a 4790k that does 4.4ghz guaranteed, with the possibility of being marginally cooler.

Oh I see. My 4770k did 4.5 happily. I guess this is just an easy step to 4.4. I suppose it doesn't matter again too much to me but what batch are people having the best success with?

Has there ever been any word on why Intel moved away from soldering these chips?

Likely just a cost saving thing?

Or some master plan? Chips run hotter = die faster?

I hope they do an about face on this front due to chips getting smaller, and needing better contact to move the heat away, but I doubt it...

Silly question, but it's not technically possible to get a 4790K that performs worse than a 2500K @ 4.5, is it? I mean, it should be ~20% faster clock for clock, and I think nobody's had one that's not getting at least 4.6?

Reason I ask is my poor old rig is starting to get a bit rickety and unstable, probably because it's been overclocked and overheating since day one. Never had a CPU/motherboard last me so long (since Oct 2011) though so I'm not upset - but I have a feeling I'm going to wake up one day and find I need to make a quick purchase xD

So far so good at 4.7 on 1.198v. I'm not pushing for any more. Ah no nowhere near lol.

It seems happy at 1.250 and temps staying under 80 on AIDA with my h100i in quiet mode. Very happy with that tbh.

No, a stock 4790K would be about equivalent to a 2500K @4.8ish I think.

Certainly a stock 4790K will beat a 2500K @4.5 quite easily.

first new system build in years, crazy how things have changed. Anything over 50 degs on my old e6600 (2.4->3.5/1.48v ) would have me worried, lol.

L419b577, hits 85 degs in bios with a quick test run (4.9 @ 1.33 auto volts), need to get shot of this stock cooler right quick...

EDIT: Nice to see the thermal throttle kicks in around 98 degrees...

I also got a L419B577 Batch number.

Won't be installing quite yet waiting for a Corsair H110 and Corsair 750D case

I made the move from the 2500k as it was unstable and got the 4790k, much better performance from where I am sitting. Haven't tried video editing with it yet, but imagine that's much faster too

Going to delid tomorrow. Am I right that I don't want to cut up the end where the notches are because that's where some caps are? I don't have a vice so sill be razor blading.

pardon the quality (phone > instagram), but under the h105 lies the 4790k sweet sweet devil.

Sent my L3 July 2013 back today, hopefully get an L4.. hell even a CPU without marks on the IHS, excess TIM every where and fibres of some sort all over it. Plenty of room for improvement!

Nice, cheers :) I won't feel too bad if I have to lose the 2500K, it's been far too hot and overvolted for very nearly its 3 year warranty - not Intel's fault that I've abused the crap out of it. Next build might have to feature an AIO watercooler and a case with better ventilation, however...
