***Intel i7 4790K Owners thread***

@kimandsally. My first one was an L336D106, benched in XTU, real bench, cinebench, superpi 32m at 4.8ghz, 1.32v. Not prime stable and temps even at stock went into the mid 90's. My second one is L419B533. This chip came from another user on here, (we swapped). Ive yet to clock this one, but even at stock in p95 it too gets into the 90's.

These chips are not like CPU's of old are they? the steppings don't always relate to being a good CPU, I just like to look and compare for my own info, on my 3rd today.
Nothing wrong with the other 2 both did 5GHz with volts but my water system does keep them cool even under load when using OCCT they have stabilised at around 70-80c.

No idea what the new one does.

I do have a problem with the Gigabyte Z97 SOC Force motherboard in that the BCLK buttons do nothing, the main multiplier works fine.

Is this a normal with the 4790K CPU's?

Got my L331C518 at 4.7 Core with 1.3v and a 4.6 ring with 1.25v. It will do 4.6 at 1.230 and is not stable at 4.8 with 1.325, the temps started getting over 80c then so I backed off.

I have been playing with this, I got it stable at 4.7 with 1.25v with the ring at 4.6 with 1.235. I don't know how to get 4.8 stable, anything over 1.325 sends my temps too high so I cant really check it at high volts. :(

Couldnt say about the bclk issue im afraid. Ill have to see what sort of oc i can get from this one. It is a little bit cooler running than the first one i had. Tbh im a bit underwhelmed by the haswell chips. Too badly limited oc'ing wise due to being handicapped at the factory. Different animal though if you take the chance and delid it.

Have you seen them get better then if delided?

I haven't seen myself any results,I would be interested if you could give me a link as I am interested in this.

When delidded you dont have to worry about high temps when pushing the voltage up. Temp drops of 20c are pretty common, you need to use coollaboratory liquid pro/ultra paste on the cpu die once you take the lid off and remove the stuff intel put on.

So delided assuming you can keep the temps down what voltage do people use max?

Install intel management engine software and the OC button utility.

Yep thats all you need to do.

Its something to do with intel ME software and the OC Button tool.

Try a reinstall, it is to do with that.

Try ME software reinstall then OC button and restart. or the other way around.

Edit try setting bclk from auto to manual.

Got some Corsair Platinum 2400CAS9 RAM, it does 2666CAS10 easily.

Hi guys! Had my 4790k for a week, let it run in and now I'm looking at overclocking it, just wanted to check what the limits were and what I needed to chance. I know the only thing I can really change is the multiplier and the voltage. The voltage shouldn't really go over 1.4 and the temps shouldn't go over 80?

Do you still need to disable all the power saving stuff, and any other things? I assume the turbo will need to go to prevent it trying to push the chip too far.

Currently I'm sitting at 1.347V at 4.4Ghz and a 44x multiplier without touching anything in the bios. Core Temp reports it hitting 82C after running at 100% for a few minutes, around 25C idle with an antec kuhler 950.
Current score 9.09 on v11.5 and 830 on v15. Once I get some answers I'll go overclock it and report back! :)
