***Intel i7 4790K Owners thread***

Well guys, I updated to the latest BIOS and reseated my H100i using IC Diamond 7. Oh my days what a different. Now Prime95 maxes the chip at 59c. Unbelievable difference!

@Wilkeh, is that with all power saving features disabled? And what version of p95? The latest 28.5 is a real beast for high cpu temps.

Not sure on the power saving stuff tbh mate, where can I check that?

And yep, version 28.5 on Prime95.

I've just downloaded Coretemp as before I was using Asus's software which seams a bit off. Was recording 10c lower on Asus! Still though, 70c on Coretemp on P95 I'm happy with definitely :)

Those temps are extremely good for that version of prime, most people are hitting the low 80's at least running small fft on that one. The power saving stuff such as c states are found under the advanced bios menu then cpu configuration menu, speedstep in the ai oc menu. If 1.024 is your true stock voltage it looks like youve done well in the silicon lottery.

Oh that's great news then :)

Yeah mate it's definitely 1.024v, checked it in the BIOS.

I just thought IC Diamond 7 was just amazing stuff haha, it's unbelievably thick! I've never use thermal paste quite that thick before. Apparently the BIOS update helps a lot too as it changes something with regards to voltage etc on my motherboard which is a Maximus VII Ranger.

Either way I'm extremely pleased my friend :D

The high voltage on first release bios versions seems to be a common thing with all manufacturers. Even on my older Z87 board where the bios for DC chips was released several weeks before the Z97 boards went on sale.

I waited for the refresh to hopefully get a 'speed binned' devils canyon. My 4790K hits 80 deg at 4.4.... thats on a custom water setup. Pushed it to 4.6, hit 96 deg. :(
Thats pretty much normal if using anything like p95 ver 28.5 or intel burn test. Run a few loops of asus real bench, temps will be lower and it's a pretty good stability test.

not on Water it isn't !!!!!!!!!! mine is about 85 degrees at 4.7 air

he's getting 96 degrees at 4.6 water, maybe his isn't delidded, not sure

Mine under water hits 90c+ at stock with IBT and prime, I haven't delidded and i am guessing he hasn't.

that's bad man.....Intels fault

but i must tell you and you're probably sick of hearing it, but delidding it really is quite simple.

the cpu is easy to fix compared to my 7990
