***Intel i7 4790K Owners thread***

That temp is fine. I only delidded mine to try and push for 4.8.
Backed vcore of to 1.300 and its still going ok in games. Most interesting thing is though, cpu temps must be effected by my gpu's. 2x non reference cooled gtx 780's. With the lower vcore and the cards running without a frame limit in games, temps are still in the 70's. If i limit the cards framerate the cpu temps max at 64c. Due to the coolers on the gpu's they dump a fair bit of heat into the case.

Mmm, getting freezes in games now, both bf3 and 4. No bsod just application errors.

Couldn't that be to do with the number of frames the gpus having to draw requiring more CPU processing? If you limit frames => cuts down gpu usage => cuts down amount of CPU work required shunting information to them?

my pc doesn't like the Core Temp 64 software....it's slightly buggy when minimised to desktop, i've noticed this before.

the Cooler Master Silenco is running much better now because i've added two roof fans today, i replaced the rubbish Corsair intakes....(but they're ok for the roof) with twin 140mm Apache Venum Vipers ;)...............the difference is enormous

it would be ok to remove the exhaust fan from Megahalems now, it hardly turns anyway .....cpu is 27 to 30 degrees idle

what is the safest lowest voltage for the 4790k? (that would also boost to 44)
I use similar mobo to you (Asus Z97 pro wifi) & when i was testing with stock cooler i just put a minus offset voltage of .05(-.05) , this allowed me to use XMP settings & still keep temps reasonable.Tested with Realbench etc some light gaming & temps stayed below 80c.
Now mobo in my main rig with my custom water cooling it runs 4.7 ghz @ 1.3v(DDR 2400) & temps are lower .

Hmm, just recently installed a 4790k and the thing is crazy hot. Under Prime95 I'm getting around 96c :/

It's on a H100i cooler as well. Guess I'll try a different set of thermal paste or something.

I've got exactly the same issue, Asus Maximus Gene VII 1104 BIOS, 4790K, XMP profile enabled with 16gb (4x4GB) Mushkin blackline 1600mhz CAS9, pretty much everything else on auto/default, seeing i think 1.264 vcore and huge temps, pushing 99 on core 1, 96 on cores 0 + 2 and core 3 is down at 88, that's in intel burn test and prime95

watched it run to 63 degrees while doing a heap of updates, so in real world use it's crap too

had a raijntech themis in there, swapped for a bequiet shadow rock pro and still seeing the same temps.

:(

dunno what to do now, never seen anything run that hot

following reading some of the comments on here about Prime95 tests and Intel Burn Test, i downloaded that Asus RealBench and gave it a whirl.

Also, while i was at it, i swapped the install of CPU-Z for the ROG skinned version :) - and now the Vcore reads right at 1.263 rather than reading the VCIIN of 1.82 ! dunno why one works when the other mis-reads, but i'm not complaining.
Grabbed the ROG themed version of GPU-Z too.

Ran the stress test first, for 15 minutes, with RealTemp monitoring, saw the Core 1 temp push up to about 93, but it was only briefly

Ran the benchtest twice, Temps were pretty much the same, peaking at 93 but mainly sitting between 74-88
System Score was 79346 and 79890, and that's at stock speeds, turbo enabled and XMP profile selected, 1600mhz RAM (4x4gb) and Gigabyte GTX 770 OC Windforce 3 at out-of-the-box speeds/settings.

Doesn't seem to bad at all, but that is using a 256GB m.2 Plextor drive as the main OS drive, which is scarily fast, I though Office had stopped installing earlier due to an error - nope, it had finished, so fast that i was stunned!

GPU-Z reported Max GPU temp of 60 degrees through out all the tests, so at least something seems to be going ok temp wise

Do you think it's worth me trying to lower the vCore - please bear in mind that whilst i know my way around the BIOS and pc building, i'm not an overclocker, so my knowledge in this area is small, and theres a lot of new stuff in this latest ASUS BIOS i'm not familiar with - so instructions for a simpleton please !

Are you running the latest bios for your board? A lot of early versions would set pretty high vcore and a higher 4400mhz cache/uncore clock. Running real bench results in a max temp of 81c for mine, 4.7ghz on 1.300v. Air cooled with a k2 and dual 2350rpm corsair sp PWM fans.

I got my 4790K on saturday and paired it up with some Arctic Silver 5 and an H100 with Scythe GT fans pushing through the rad. Temps I am seeing 25 - 30 idle and max of 65 after running Intel XTU for 3 hours. Those temps are from the Intel app sensor readout, MSI afterburner reports 20-25 idle and 60 max after the 3 hour test (reading from different sensor I guess, as it's always 5 degrees lower than the intel app sensor readout).

Naturally I am well chuffed with these temps! I should say that this is not with stock settings, I have it setup as follows:

Base ratio: 40 (stock)
Turbo ratio: 46
Uncore ratio: 46
CPU vCore: 1.150 (seems stable after 3 hours XTU and BF4)
LLC: Extreme
Phase Control: Extreme
C3: Enabled (so voltage can drop at idle)
EIST: Enabled (so frequency can drop during idle)

Haven't touched any other voltages.

So I have either done some magic with the thermal compound and H100
OR
I have won the silicon lottery
OR
my PC will start crashing left right an centre with this voltage at 4.6GHz...

We shall see!

Hey guys. Running an i7-4790K with IC Diamond on the stock cooler with plenty of case cooling. I'm idling in the late 30's early 40's and maxing out round the 85C mark when I video encode or run Prime/Intel Burn etc. Is this the best I'm going to get temps wise with this chip? I was running up to 100c initially but reseated and got to where I am now. I'd feel more comfortable maxing at 70c or so but don't have the balls to delid the chip. :P

Any settings I could try out on the board? I'm a noob but can learn quickly if I need to. I just want the temps down a bit. I'm on the Z97 Gaming 5 board flashed up to latest BIOS and too scared to run an overclock with these temps.

I would invest in an aftermarket cooler, the stock one is terrible tbh.

The stock cooler is really poor though, you would do better buying an improved one. ^ beat me to it setter ;)

Then look at maybe reducing the voltage a tad. Should be able to bring it down at stock clocks. Overclocking though it's to be expected.

85º with stock cooler...? _ (on load?)
you got a good chip!
encoding movies getting me to 85º with Noctua C12P SE14.

or.........

its really dosent mater what cooler you use.... it seems that 85-100 is what this chip is about. (hell i saw a few with H110 and they were at 95º)
