Some pretty damn quick CPU's at fantastic prices. There is also the new E4500 and Q6700 on the website too. :)

The E6850 looks very attractive - 3Ghz stock speeds :D

Hi there

Yep, I guess Intel are rubbing salt into AMD's wounds considering how much quicker these are than anything AMD have to offer and the fact its soooo cheap for such a quick CPU. :)

So is this the price drop, is this as far as it goes?

I thought Q6600 were to be had for £150, and E6600 for half that price?

:(

Grrrr. Have to work out a new budget now.

No, don't panic, Gibbo just doesn't want to sell no CPUs for 3/4 of July, so he's dropping the price gradually.

Ahhh, good idea tbh.

They must be spitting at Intel for this public price drop announcement, but am sure when it hits the amount of orders will make up for it.

Is the E6750 one of the new 45nm chips? And would this be a better buy over the E6600 (i guess both will keep in price distance of each other)?

Ta.

I think Intel have given them intermediate price drops as well, so there isn't a price crash.

These are not the 45nm chips. That's Penryn, due out Q4-07.

It would if i ran it at stock but id be hoping for at leat 3.5 - 3.6 out of it :)

Fair point :)

Hi there

Correction!

The E6600 is NOT I repeat IS NOT dropping in price!!

The Q6600 as of 23rd July will drop to around £150+VAT region, give or take a few quid dependent on dollar rate. OcUK's current price on the Q6600 is one of the cheapest in the UK and it ships with Supreme Commander too.

On the new additions the QX6850, E6850, E6750 and E6550 we are at the new July 23rd pricing, they may drop a little further, say around £10-£20 on the higher-end stuff but again depend on dollar rate on the day.

Hi there

In all honesty it has little effect on our sales, upto now this month we have still sold 1100pcs of E6600 alone, fair enough that is not dropping in price but the E6750 is a better buy.

OcUK does things early to beat our competitors and get a nice spike in sales ready for price drop day. It also guarantees customers who place pre-orders to be first in the queue and as such getting a CPU to their door quicker. :)

Any sign of the G0 stepping on any of those boxes gibbo?

I think the reason is the e6600 will outsell the e6750 is they are identical except the e6600 has a 9x multiplier, and the e6750 has an 8x multiplier (but confirmed to run at 1333). As they are at the same price I think the smart money would still go on the e6600 with the higher multi.

Exciting times to be looking at an upgrade. :D

So which CPU, £4£ (or the sweet spot), is the one to go for as i'm totally torn between the E6600, the E6750 & the Q6600!

Ditto-anything else would be a bit of a waste of brass i think.

My E6300 (ES) runs at 3.2 - so even getting an uber quick e6600 that did say 3.6 wouldnt be enough to persuade me.

Quad core at 2.8 on air should(?) be pretty easy and respresent a little bit of future proofing.

I'd say the Q6600 @ £176.25 (roughly), followed by the e6600 @ £145.

Yeah, i like the idea of a quad, should last a while.

Been scouting and found i can get a Gigabyte 965P-DS3 with Geil Ultra DDR2 2GB PC6400 for £120, stick a Freezer on for £15 and i've got a quad upgrade for £300.

I know the mobo & ram are not the greatest, but its cheap enough to consider, will it bottleneck the CPU much or not?
