Does the P965 DS3 do quad?

I was hoping you'd know!

There are two revisions, i think 3.3 does do it, am not sure.

Just starting to consider my options, my original thought was a E6600, so haven't really scouted a quad supporting mobo.

If not i can get the P35C-DS3R for £85 (extra £25)

Which does support it and supports the new 45nm chips and i think DDR3 (although not sure)

Yep, it supports Penryn, Quads, DDR2, DDDR3, metric and Imperial mesurement systems, betamax, pretty much anything :D

The standard DS3 doesn't support Quads though, the DS3P and the P35 DS3s do.

So it would be worth my while getting one of these and a Q6660?

Also i know the memory isn't spectacular, but for £60 its keeping cost down and it always give my an incentive to go DDR3 when it becomes more regular.

Anything you'd change on that, seems a canny little setup for next month! :)

I think the reason is the e6600 will outsell the e6750 is they are identical except the e6600 has a 9x multiplier, and the e6750 has an 8x multiplier (but confirmed to run at 1333). As they are at the same price I think the smart money would still go on the e6600 with the higher multi.
Forgive a n00b question but but what does the multiplier do exactly? I was thinking of going for the E6750 since the prices is roughly the same but its higher then the E6600 at stock.. [probably wont be overclocking if that makes a difference]

Cheers
Tom

Higher multi means better oc options as the speed can go higher on same fsb than a lower multi at same fsb.

300fsb - 2400mhz (8 multi)
300fsb - 2700mhz (9 multi)

for example.

Thank you SkeeterPSA, I see what you mean.

Still can't decide if I am going to overclock or not though.. the E6750 is £147 while the E6600 is £150 inc VAT.. at stock the E6750 would be better but I am guessing if I would OC the E6600 to say 3.0GHz it would do so easily and without trouble on air colling and stock fan? Or would I need to buy a Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler or similar also?

Cheers
Tom

Edit: Trying to make my mind up and if I can put my order in!

Heard the stock coolers are fine, but personally i would invest in a proper overclocking hsf setup, just so i never have to worry about temps as i would if used the stock cooling.

Personally i have seen the E6600 cheaper so when its intel price cuts comes next month i would probably see from various sites a lower price of the E6600. Probably £120. Up to you to wait or not etc tho.

If you are planning to oc then go for E6600, either way you will need a decent aftermarket cooler to achieve decent clock, like the tuniq tower you mentioned.

Looks very nice, I'm considering something like that for a future build :)

Finally OCUK have prices on the new C2d,s. Now I can plan my new build.
Either E6850 or Q6600 for me and a Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R .
2 years is a long time to wait, but its worth it. Will wait to see your benches
on those cpu's before I hit the buy order end of the month. ;)

Hopefully some more information will come out regarding the new GO stepping
cpu's. As I'm waiting on those two.

naz, can you explain to me why you want to get a e6850, when you could clock an e6600 up to that speed? Or an e6320/e6420 with the right motherboard?
