Intel to Cut Prices of its Desktop Processors by 15% in Response to Ryzen 3000

Just pulled the trigger on the 9900K, Z390 Aorus Pro (Wi-Fi) & 32GB Ram DDR4 3200, 512GB Aorus M2 SSD, Dark Rock 4 Cooler (won't be overclocking so no need for an AIO) and a nice new Meshify C case with Copper & Deep Blue replacement front panels.

(already have my 850w Gold PSU & RTX 2080 in my current PC)

...not bad for £975.

Did you grab that Aorus board at the silly price of £136.99, or did you miss it? Great board for the money. :)

If you're not going to be overclocking why did you waste money on a K model?

I don't understand why people buy chips with unlocked multipliers then do nothing with them? What's the point?

....because I keep my PC's for 4-5yrs and the 8c 16t of the 9900K at 4.6 Ghz all core will stand the test of time, and who knows after a couple of yrs, I may start to OC it if i need to. Either way It's nice to have the option and £400 was too good a deal to pass up.

Whatever floats ya boat...:o

Why buy a 9900k not to overclock?

I bet your gaming at 1440p too...

I wouldn't worry about the longevity of it.

I'm still rocking a 2600k at 4.8GHz and it has been for the last 8 years :D

..see my above post.

..and no, I'm gaming at 4K.

Then why bother with a 9900k at all?

Surely getting a 3700x 8/16 with the option to upgrade to a 3900x or even 3950x would have been better than buying into a dead socket?

I bought a 9900k had it two weeks and sold it to go Ryzen ...best thing I ever did...saved loads of money and have an upgrade path to scratch any nerdy itches...

3700x , MSI B450 pro Carbon could have been bought for the cost of a 9900k...

yeah and have a 1000 headaches getting it to run and find out the bios chip is too small. thats why they bringing out the new max 450 boards in less than a week ! why you think all retailers been putting them on sale.

Not sure why you didn't buy a 3900X?

Also it's daft not to OC a 9900k, it's literally 3 or 4 options in the BIOS to get it to 5 Ghz and then undervolt if you wish.

Your post is just not true...the Bios is out and works fine for that mobo.

The new Max mobos are incoming but the current B450 mobo s from MSI work fine with zero issues.

LBH, three months from now, any overclocked Ryzen 3000 or Intel chip will do. Because..

Winter is Coming.

:D

Idk about that, seems pretty worthless to OC the new 3000 series. Sure you get something but its close enough to nothing compared to default.

On the other hand everyone gets all the performance at stock with no power consumption tax on top. You can't say that for the Intel cpus where you're considered to be leaving performance on the table if you don't increase the clock speed and power consumption from default.

I'll be fascinated to see what Silicon Lottery are going to do, they announced they'd bin the new Ryzen cpus but we already know there's almost nothing to OC for. Certainly nothing worth being overcharged for.

Expect them to quietly drop it and go back to living off the margins between stock and OC Intel chips.

Then you could have saved £80 with the 3700X.

What I'd save on CPU costs is more than cancelled out by the extra cost of a (decent) X570 motherboard (£200+) and higher speed RAM (32GB 3400-3600 £200+) to get the most out of it.

..I did the sums chaps and this build was cheaper....and faster :)

It was more the "toasty-ness" of the CPUs rather than their performance I was getting at. For all we can say about the 9700/9900, the new Ryzen 3000 series aren't exactly cloaking themselves with glory - even at stock - when it comes to temps.

For someone like myself who works on their PC all day, I prefer a silent build above everything else. It seems any step-up from my current completely silent 3770k based build to a newer processor is going to involve some significant changes should I wish to keep the rig silent. :(

I don't know what you mean. Can you link something to describe it.

I'm aware the AMD cpus are very aggressive in doing the maximum they can within temperature and power limits.

Without seeing anything yet, high temperatures don't mean high power consumption and doesn't mean you need to use loud fan speeds. Lower running temps for the sake of it are not important right?
