Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

I think the surprising thing to see (although I kind of knew) is how little IPC Intel have gained since moving onto 14nm with Broadwell.

Adsitional instruction sets mean other programs may see more, but on a like for like basis not much for years now.

Yeah, Sandy Bridge - Ivy Bridge - Haswell - SkyLake and i suspect CoffeeLake are all with in 15% IPC of eachother.

They are all pretty much the same architecture, just refined and enhanced from the last, much like Bulldozer to Vishera to Excavator, the biggest difference is between Haswell and Skylake, that is as much as 10%, Sandy Bridge to Ivy Bridge about 3 or 4%, SkyLake to CoffeeLake nothing.

Regardless of all the bickering and despite that I will not be buying one, I'm still interested in seeing coffee lakes performance.

What's more interesting is the adoption of more than 4 cores in the mainstream.

To be honest, even I am fed up of reading the repetitive arguments here which are not really going away. At the end of the day, Intel will be faster (in most cases) on a clock for clock basis, can clock higher, and are way more expensive. I doubt that is going to change for the next 9 months.

If someone wants to buy an 8700K or any other Coffee Lake chip, and find out how it is for themselves, then good on them, at least they will have first hand experience of the platform, for its benefits and its drawbacks. The same applies to people who may want to grab an AMD solution to compare.

People bang on about one being better than the other, but they both have benefits, and they both have drawbacks. Neither of them is a catch all solution, for everyone, and for once people actually need to make a choice, which is refreshing. :)

Indeed. Everything offers about the same performance per core so you have to look at the prices and systems as a package then decide what is the best overall option. For me Coffeemaker brings Intel closer but Ryzen is still the better option. That could change tho.

If a 8700K was the price of a Ryzen 1700 and and Z370 was prices around X370 then dropping 2 cores and 4 threads might make sense with 20% higher clocks.

About half a decade over due, as community we need to stop regurgitating Intel's PR at each-other like blind sheep.

Its insane.

Well as I posted a few pages back the MSI Z370 KRAIT GAMING is £141.79 which is about the same as an entry level X370 board.

This is from the same UK place that has the whole set of new CPU's listed, then there is the MSI Z370 GODLIKE GAMING at £415.94... LOL!

It happens on both sides it's just that AMD have had little to shout about for the last 10 years. Those that prefer Intel have just forgotten that.

Yeah at least this is moar more of the same from Intel this time. If CoffeeMaker can get back to the clockspeeds of SandyButt it could good even at the hinted at prices and with the deadend socket.

@Journey that MSI Z370 Godlike Gaming resembles the X370 Titanium, both memeboards and waaaaay overpriced for what they offer :D
Hopefully this time they put something other than NIKOS budget mosfets on that £400 board.

But the level of Rhu Guh Bhu will be amazballz on the GODLIKE Gaming Gaming. It's so good at gaming they named it twice.

Not saying you are, just saying that your opinions look like they too have jumped to what fits your needs.

They have. Once i accepted ryzen wasn't going to get any better. I fell into the hype of ryzen and have enough of waiting for fine wine.
I've gave it a fair go, best board, best ram and the performance is hit and miss. In some games it's an i3 and others it's a haswell i7.
You could say i have buyers remorse.
At least intel is consistent. Yes it's priced higher but i know it'll be top of the chain in games and not rely on devs to optimise.
Now can we get back onto the actual CPU this thread is about? :)

One gets the impression a lot of people wish it were still so. Because of that one almost thinks we deserve a total dominance if Intel and the very high prices for crap CPU's and complete lack of innovation and advancement that brings.

We created Intel in that form.

Lots of assumptions made and more today? What if Z370 is buggy as hell and it will be. What will you do then?

Are you bring serious? It's kaby with 2 cores lol how can it be buggy?
I have seen screens of coffee doing 5ghz and 4000mhz ram. The performance is there.

If I'm spending £400+ on a board it's because I am buying something like the Asus X99-E-10G WS, which has dual 10Gbe LAN, and 7x 16x PCI-E slots(yes gimped by PLX), anyone who spends that much on a gaming board is an idiot (IMO). I can understand sort of up to £200-230, when they have awesome sound chips, and amplifiers, and really good power delivery, but the rest is just adding zero value, loads of plastic and LED's and on occasion maybe a free t-shirt. In one case, earlier this year I built a 7700K system for a friend of a friend, he bought a Asus ROG Maximus IX Formula Intel Z270, and a GTX 1060, 3GB!!!!

So you brought the wrong cpu for your needs. You could have waited but you jumped on it early, fair enough and commendable but ultimately your fault. You should have waited for coffee lake or zen 2.

Such is life.

ASRock usually has some really nice high end boards with Aquantia NICs that are pretty reasonably priced. Did we get any leaks of the Z370 Taichi or Fatal1ty?
I hope we see more than 1 Thunberbolt 3 ports too, I think they use Type C connectors and should be compatible with USB devices too.

Yeah, like the 5Ghz SkyLake-X this room had already taken as granted fact the instant one slide was slipped onto the Internet. When it comes to Intel all common sense is out the window.

It is my fault but let's not pretend ryzen hasn't been hyped to the moon and back. It really isn't as good as people say. Anyone coming from a haswell or higher will be disappointed if gaming is their thing. I can't wait for this thread to blow up with benchmarks when the 8700k releases.
