Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

I was seriously thinking about an 8700K as i've started streaming on Twitch more now, but my Corsair HX520 is finally dying so i have ordered an EVGA GQ 650w coming tomorrow, which has thrown a spanner in my works, or maybe it threw a blessing there instead.. :p i can wait though, fresh install of Windows 10 the other day has fixed a lot of issues i had, even game stuttering was really bad in DayZ but is now fixed.

Then again i had not freshly installed Win 10 since before its release as i was on the thingymabob before it.. just wish i had done this months ago now :)

I've been streaming on a I5 6500 at 60fps 720p for ages so I wouldn;t use "streaming more " as an excuse, will it help , of course yes but it won;t be that much different.

Try streaming DayZ, even at 720p60/6000kbps/faster preset.. the grass still looks really horrible.

DayZ is different to pretty much every other game when it comes to streaming that horrible grass, as its most of the map and you cant get away from it, higher presets are needed for this one :)

They could be using faster RAM.

However, I read that the results are with a GTX980TI.

Regardless, there is no excuse that. The 7700K has even 2400Mhz ram.

On this benchmark the 8700K performs exactly like a higher clocked 7800X.
So is only two things. Either the benchmark source is pants, showing a 7800X as 8700K or the 8700K has Mesh topology.

If it is the former, as I expect it is, then all is OK. However if is the latter I see no point for someone buying that CPU. A 1700 is cheaper, and the platform isn't going to die in 6 months time.

I got a 8700k from at 1.30am this morning. total cost was £358.76 INC 2-6 Day business delivery from the US.

I'd have prefered to have got it from UK shores rather than Import but I felt I had to take a chance due to the stock situation!

Now on to the z370 mission....

I believe it was one of fourteen in stock. I was refreshing like a madman, they all went in 10 mins

I also noticed it said more arriving on the 9th after they ran out but that has since changed to currently unavailable.

For reference I'd edit your post based on:

Let’s remember who pays the bills for the forum before we start hinting or linking to competitors shall we. Can any newbies read the rules because I’ve already deleted 6 or 7 posts related to this and bans will be issued.

I felt it was a little too much for the offering to be honest, my budget only allows me to get 8600k as i want gigabyte auros "gaming" 5. I could not see an 8600k as i think that will be best bang for buck, also lack of threading will reduce heat (i am hoping) which means higher o/c

It will be interesting to see what the overclocking potential is on the 8600k. I don't think the price I paid was bad. I expect them to be something the same in the UK later today (If there is stock) I'm between the Aorus and One of the Asus strix board's atm....maybe even the maximus hero. IDK yet!

I'm pretty sure Intel confirmed it was not mesh for the 8700k.

Either way I'm always a bit skeptical with these "leaks". I guess we'll find out at 2pm when official reviews start leaking out.

Honestly if it did turn out that the 8700k is nothing more than a 7800x in drag then going X299 makes sense, you even actually have an upgrade path with just changing the cpu to get more cores, as opposed to needing a new motherboard when z390 and 8 core mainstream cpu's arrive.

I know some people say the X299 has a higher entry cost, but I don't think it's that bad, you can pick up 16gb of quad channel for around the same price as 2x8gb sticks, and you can pick up a decent motherboard for just over 200 quid.

I can see it not making sense for the type of person who buys a motherboard at 100 quid and 8gb of ram, but I'd imagine a lot of us buy motherboards near 200 quid anyway...

Plus if the 8700k ends up being priced at around £380 and then you're spending £170 on a motherboard you're not that much better off than spending £350 on a 7800x and £200 on an x299 motherboard

whats your opinion on the asrock extreme 4?

Cheers for that, not exactly a glowing review.

At this moment, I am extremely disappointed in Coffee Lake when it comes to nonexistent IPC scaling over the last generation. But then again, it is far from the first time Intel has disappointed us in terms of moving forward when it comes to IPC. You can read reviews from us here and here, that showcase just how well the aged 2600K stands up against today's advanced Intel processors in gaming and IPC.

It felt really rushed too, pretty much as though he wanted to be "first" lol. I know most comparisons are going to be 7th gen mainstream (and Ryzen likely too). But I'd really like to see benchmarks against the 7800x.
