Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

CPU prices back up here, but no stock info, hoping it appears at 3pm.

8100 139 CHF £108
8350k 209 CHF £162
8400 same as above
8600K 296 CHF £230
8700 351 CHF £272
8700K 415 CHF £325

Prices favours me due to the exchange rate, for comparison, a 7700k is the same price as the 8600k.

With speculative prices what sort of price would a build come to that would rival a 1600x build?

Not far off clicking the buy button of a 1600x build @ £580ish (cpu, cooler, board, ram, case)

A 1600x build will be cheaper. With what the 8700k will cost (and Z370 motherboards) you're looking at a Ryzen 7 and X370 equivalent.

Bear in mind if you're happy with B350 (which still overclocks) the price difference is even larger.

Realistically the 8700k is going to be over 300 quid, more likely 350-400. A ryzen 5 is under 200, even the 1700 is now under 300.

OCUK have the 1700 at £269.99 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-...hz-socket-am4-processor-retail-cp-39x-am.html I can see the 8700k being 100 quid more than that in all honesty.

The 1600 is only £179 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-...hz-socket-am4-processor-retail-cp-39z-am.html which going on my (pulled out my arse) £379 for 8700k that's a 200 quid saving!!

From what I've seen of the current pricing in other places with import taxes etc the 8700k should be around 330-350, they actually seem to be cheaper this time around.

temptation to get an i3 K and £120 board and see how far it overclocks and performs is great- the thought of buying the i7 K and selling on is greater though :(

all depends on what the exchange rate was when @Gibbo /ocuk bought the stock ... not sure if Gibbo is about to state the stock exchange rate at the date they bought the stock without stating the purcahse date would break any NDA.....

unless intel distributor deals in EU rather then dollars...

Ah ok, even still the value of the 1600 can't be denied for those who have an emphasis on price. I always look at things the other way though. If you're spending 4 figures on a pc, what's another 100 quid lol.

That review posted isn't exactly shining the 8600k in a good light, but I'll keep an open mind until we have a larger pool of benchmarks etc.

Roll on 2pm so we can see the exact price, and availability....

edit: although the last post on here doesn't sound promising https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/t...k-cpus-from-8-pack-on-day-one.18791719/page-6

So Ryzen 7 still better unless you game at low res?
Yes, I believe their tests suggest to go with Coffee Lake if you game at 640x480. :D

If the i7-8700K is £350 then that's still ~£180 more than the R5 1600. £180 that would easily let you upgrade a GTX 1070 to a GTX 1080, and just about let you swap a GTX 1080 to a GTX 1080 Ti for your build. You could argue that you might not need as fast RAM with the Intel setup but the saving from getting a B350 board would probably make up the small difference there. You can then save an extra £50+ by not (necessarily) needing a custom cooling solution.

The guy who wants to buy a full system sorry I don't have time to check right now who you are. Call our sales tell them what you need. Pay for it I will make sure you have a CPU of what ever speed you require. Anyone else also for full systems call up and it will be done.

Do you think an i5 8600k build would see a decent improvement over an i7 4770k?
Looking to give more frames on battlefield 1 which currently maxed out my cpu and limits my 1080ti.
Cheers

Debating whether to upgrade from a Ryzen 1700X and ASUS X370 to an i7 8700k. I mainly game so I think the single threaded performance might come out on top over Ryzen.

Don't want to spend money unnecessarily though so I will see what all of your opinions are.

I hope the situation with the boards isn't the same as the CPU!

It's not at all. Motherboard vendors aren't constrained the way intel are.

By all accounts even overseas (where retailers have started selling) you can see that retailers have the boards, just not enough cpus...

Even OCUK have stated they have more motherboards than cpus.

I don't think it's worth it for you. With the loss you'll likely make selling up and then buying, the performance difference will be insignificant.

But it depends at what resolution you game at. If it's 1440p 60hz or 4k then I wouldn't bother. If you're a hardcore gamer playing at 144hz then it might be worthwhile for you....

We've already seen that differences in gaming aren't really that drastic. Intel cpus are better, but not night and day. But for those wanting the best, that's reason enough. I guess most enthusiasts want the best performance and are happy paying big money for diminishing returns....

I can't really see to point in upgrading from the Ryzen tbh and I'm an intel fanboy. Depends if your interested in single digit increases I suppose. I would wait until there's a fair few reviews out before you make your choice.

Thanks for your responses, I think I'll keep the cash until another day. I didnt long go from B350 mobo to X370 so I am not keen on rebuilding my PC again.

Im gaming at 4k at the moment, so sounds like there is even less reason to upgrade.
