Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

Yes but the point isn’t there are still cheaper sku’s... You just happen to want the expensive one. To be fair to a lot of vendors they make a lot more variants so you can kinda get the look for less in a lot of cases.

Hi, There were cheaper boards when I bought my Z97 motherboard too, My point was that if I want to buy the same calibre of motherboard, the exact same model in Asus's range it now costs an additional £100 to £110.

I'm sticking with my 5820k. Hoping it will see me out until pcie4 rolls around, then I'll make my next upgrade. I'm happy enough with 60 in demanding titles though, don't have the wallet to be chasing 144 except on less demanding stuff like Rocket league.

There's no real need to upgrade from that if it's primary use is gaming.

Nope we're good for another couple of years :)

So....worth upgrading from my 4790K running at stock yet?

As elrasho said you're good for a while yet but if you want a little more performance why not add an overclock? I don't know much about overclocking but I went into the bio's and made all cores match each other and put the multiplier to 45 which is a 100% stable 4.5 overclock, Seeing as the 4790k has a 4ghz clock and a 4.4 boost none should struggle with that and it's sure to manage more if you know what you're doing and do all the extra bits with voltages etc.

The problem is you are comparing £'s prices not $ which is how the board are sold. The ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO was $229, and the new ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC) is $279. I can't find the non-Wifi version, so the price will be slightly inflated. So in 4 years, the price has gone up $50, but in this instance it's not like for like since you get a $30 Wi-Fi kit with it.

Prices of things that are sold in $ went up, but never back down even though the £:$ ratio is better than when the prices went up, retailers are making hay while they can, and I doubt they'll change their tune soon.

If you want to buy it cheaper, import it from the EU, or the US, there is no duty on computer parts just VAT to pay, so it'll cost you less if you are buying a few items. :)

Does CPU performance impact games less at 1440p + high hz? Because in all the reviews they pretty much still show 1080p performance only.

They stick with 1080 as it's still using the cpu, when you go to the higher res / refresh it switches to the gpu and in most benchmarks at 3440x1440 or 4k resolution the difference between chips is minimal and with gsync on the bigger panels fps isn't a huge factor unless your chasing silly numbers or looking to boost your own epeen.

Yes, essentially the reason is if their review says "there is no difference whatsoever between these CPUs" it's not very interesting. They need views/clicks so have to find situations that actually let them do some analysis and pick a winner.

Did any one else make the mistake of selling off their current CPU to avoid a post launch price drop on previous generations? I sold my 6700k off a few days ago. I ordered 8700k on here yesterday at 13:55 and it's killing me having zero idea when I will be getting it. I'm just glad I have my laptop with a 7700hq/1050ti to tide me over...

#1st world problems

In the same boat my friend. Ordered mine at 13:54 and have zero idea when I should expect to receive it. Very frustrating when I have everything ready here for a new build, except the CPU :( Even more frustrating when you hear of guys on here who have got their CPU arriving today but haven't got any intention of getting it into a system for a few weeks or more.

Goodies have turned up. (cant seem to find a imagehost that works anymore so no picture)

Now wondering if it is worth keeping the 4770k till the next generation, but I feel the platform is bottlenecking the 1080.... I don't know what else I could do to shore up the current system.
