Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

My plans got messed up so will order a 8400 and 1600 tomorrow I think :)
Let the games begin !
what happened to your 8600k? did you cancel it? may i ask, why are you ordering an 8400 and a 1600? are you gonna be comparing them?

EDIT: so whats the sensible option here? get coffee lake or get ryzen instead? i havent watched the reviews yet. someone point me to the right direction, my mind is all over the place. i cant decide!

What are you intending to use either system for - gaming, streaming, productivity or a mix?

Been running a i5 2500k since before the dawn of time it seems. Very disappointed by this paper launch. Was F5'ing from 13:45 onwards but no chance.

The i7-8700K is clearly the best overall chip under $500 due to its consistency and having an IGP.
Ryzen is too inconsistent, see DAW usage for example, and lacks an IGP.
The i5-8400 is also great value which is not something you hear very often with Intel, but needs a more basic chipset to keep the platform price down.
Great to see competition.

I agree on the 8400 but the higher chipset price will push it 50-100 over Ryzen which doesn't make it worth it to people wanting bang for buck which is probably 90% of the market lol

I'm sure we will see price movements. I want to pull the trigger on one or the other but I smell a price war soon

Not sure if I agree with the higher platform cost. The 8400 CPU itself costs the same as the 1600x, but the motherboard is slightly more expensive, maybe £10. However, Ryzen really needs 3200mhz RAM to 'shine' whereas the 8400 doesn't need such fast RAM to get proper performance. I think it balances out overall largely based on the savings from RAM.

LOL, what a disaster launch:) I have got full build waiting for assemble, as I donated my I7 4770k to the nephew. R5 1600, b350 strix & high quality samsung b-dies:) Impulse buy, I managed to sneak one of the I5 8600K form here, while everybody was hunting I7 8700K:) I do not mind paying more over ryzen for better min & better vr preformance, but there are limits. I tried to pick up a motherboard to go along with my new I5 8600K. Seriously, similar strix for like £80 more. F... o... Intel goes to Ebay.

Nice £50+ profit margin on that doing absolutely nothing. Maybe even £100 for some absolute madman

Got a 8700k and maximus hero coming today. Hopefully have it running Saturday. What a **** launch though, definitely rushed.

Nice one. I bought one of 8-packs pre-binned 5 ghz 8700k.

I didn't get a motherboard yet cause 8700k was a little more than I was expecting. So I'll get one next week if I can? I'm no rush, but at least got the chip. With everyone saying the 8700k would be out of stock until Dec I panicked and bought it anyways. I wont eat much this month, but hey I have a 8700k:D

All I need now is a board and new case(waiting for CoolerMaster H500p) and I'll start my build.

I thought you had bought the 8600k. What happened?

Seems as though I wasn't lucky enough to be quick enough to get a 8600k, would have had a dispatched email by now so changing to the 8400 as it's best value - build was going to be for eldest brother , happens that youngest needs a bit of an upgrade to- i7 860 and I changed that same chipset this year so now how much improvement he'll get .

Also, since I tend to quote a lot of Ryzen builds it's will be interesting to see how this Intel fairs. Did see gigabyte and ASRock boards for under £110 but then rides the Gigabyte to £120.... :(
