Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

Stock for stock them gains over my 5930k are quite nice, with delidded 8700k @ 5ghz the gap will open up even more over my 5930k @ 4.5, think I'm going to get one when they come back in stock unless someone can change my mind and save me the money.

Any-one else with a 5930/20 upgrading?
Im upgrading from a 5820 well its more of an xmas gift for my son.he mostly games so i ahould see a deacent performance gain.the 5820 is going to retire in another rig..only thing that worrys me is the lack of stock and the inevitable price gouging

From this chart below, I think my i5 4690k is on par with the Ryzen 1400? correct me if I'm wrong.

But based on that the 8400 gives 114fps on average compared to 80 for my CPU, which is a 42.5% gain at 1080p with a 1080Ti. That seems like a big gain for what would be a £200ish upgade cost (after selling my current components).

That 7740x is quite competitive considering where it's sandwiched

Should be ok by Christmas surely. That has to be Intels closest target now or even Cyber Monday. I suspect they can't afford to delay beyond that with newer ryzen chips due in feb

Out of interest, any idea where a 8350k would be on that graph? Interested for my ITX build, also not sure what sort of OC it can do, no info about that anywhere!

Yea the ryzen refresh is coming q1 and im sure a lot of people will wait now to see what amd brings to the table.if intel have supply issues they will have shot themselves in foot.that being said im sure we will notice big gains coming from 5820/30

My 5930k @ 4.5 runs at 50% load all the time now during BF1 and thats not a CPU intensive game really, will try pubg, it'll soon be close to showing it's age and I want to ship it off to someone else while I can still get 2/300 quid for it.

That's not issue, it's about the price hiking.
I bought my ROG Z97 Hero from OCUK for £160 today the Z370 Hero is £260 & £270 on the AM4 side.

Yes but the point isn’t there are still cheaper sku’s... You just happen to want the expensive one. To be fair to a lot of vendors they make a lot more variants so you can kinda get the look for less in a lot of cases.

Hero has changed it's direction over the years. When it first came out it was an si cut down rog sku.

Now it's a full featured Rog sku and Strix has the gene and impact style boards that used to be ROG.

Surely the 8350k is the same as the old 7600k and would be beast for gaming clocked up.

I am not sure it is worth it though. As I said earlier DF tested a 4.8GHZ Core i5 7600k against a 3.8GHZ Ryzen 5 1600,and it was surprising how in many modern games, the Ryzen 5 was doing better in minimums during more intense scenes, etc.

Considering the Core i5 8400 already hits nearly 4GHZ without any tweaking,I would imagine it would do something similar and it also comes with a cooler too.

Argument for value will be i5 8400 vs 1600 R5 which will win..
