Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

Is one bit of anecdotal evidence enough to do that? Could have just been silicon lottery.

It's operating voltage and it's a swing of 0,067v between the samples. Sure, you could say it's anecdotal since they could have received a particularly bad ES 8700K, but it's a shot at the conspiracy theorists who were littering this thread earlier with nothing more to go on than the tripe from a youtube video.

Just installed my 8700K, enabled 50 multiplier turned on XMP and booted and it all worked without issue super easy 5ghz in an ITX case on air.

~1700 in Cinebench multicore and around 240 single, this compared with my 6700k @ 4.5 ghz ~1000 multicore and ~195 single.

Will have to set up my system and see how everything seems.

Is this the board you are using out of interest:

What case are you using,I have one of the aluminum Cubitek ones(around 19L volume).

Yep thats the board, got an Antek ISK600 since it can hold full sized GPU and PSU:

Using some massive expensive Noctua Aircooler I had on my 6700K which takes up most of the case and *only* just fits.

What type of RAM speeds you getting on that board?? Also you know its a true SFF rig when you plonked as much in it as possible - I still remember my old Shuttles which I modified LOL! :D

I have a slightly battered aluminium Cubitek Minicube case, since I seem to prefer aluminium cases for some weird reason:

I would love a Dan Case A4-SFX but a bit expensive for a case though.

Modified it to run an AIO water cooler, and added sound proofing - its a tight fit with a GTX1080 but I found moving to a SFX PSU really helps with regards to airflow, and the Corsair SF450 is amazing.

Anyone else get the text/email that their DPD package (8700k) has been delayed in transit and that you'll now get it tomorrow?

Go back just over 6 months, we had Intel HEDT, 4C/8T 7700K and 4C/4T 7600K and Piledriver? as 'enthusiast' CPU segments

Now we have Intel HEDT, prospective 6C/12T 8700K and 6C/6T 8600K, possibly 8400 (unproven as yet), AMD HEDT (Threadripper), Ryzen unlocked 8C/16T down to 4C/4T

What is not to like, possibly the best time since mid 2000/2010 for processors and motherboards.
I was talking more about business practises than actual products. I agree that people seem to have forgotten how stagnant things were without AMD in the CPU game - even if you wouldn't buy Ryzen and/or are a big Intel fan, you have to admit you would not be getting some of the stuff they offer now if Ryzen didn't exist. It's all about competition!

@4K8KW10 Using that same logic we should 'thank' AMD for the 6 years of slowing CPU progress.
Yes, AMD was to blame for creating the turd that was Bulldozer.

And Coffee Lake was in their roadmap for quite some time before Ryzen was even released.
Everyone knew about Zen for what, 2 years before it was released? Granted we didn't know how good it'd be but Intel must've known their days of cruising were pretty much over. Also I'm pretty sure Coffee Lake appeared after Cannonlake when they realised 10 nm wasn't as easy as they thought. I wonder when the earliest slide was that indicated it'd be up to 6 cores though?

Al the MCE talk makes me laugh. As many have said, it's been around for years, it's probably just that Intel's marketing department decided to give it a nice name and make it an "official" feature rather than something motherboard manufacturers just did regardless. I don't know whether any Z370 boards turn it on by default though, that'd be a bit naughty.

Your 8700K has been stolen by the DPD driver to check what it clocks like, if it's rubbish you'll get it tomorrow, if it's great he'll keep it and give you his rubbish one. :D

Irrelevant to 1080p gaming CSGO 500 fps freaks lol. Zen offers more threads for less less money, take the 8400 already hitting 90% usage in games like GTA5 and BF1. Why anyone would that over a 1600 blows my mind.

gta ultra settings 1080p
8400 average 68.9 frames with minimums of 50
1600 average 52.8 frames with minimums of 32.3
https://uk.hardware.info/reviews/76...six-cores-gaming-benchmarks-gtx-1080-ti-gta-v

MINIMUMS of 32.3 and can't even average 60+ and you can't comprehend why someone would want the other one.
Yep, higher frequencies are king for older games. I'm kind of amazed that even the GTX 1080 Ti can't provide 60+ FPS at 1080p ultra settings in GTA V though (even with the i5-8400). Such a resource-hungry game.
