Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

The ambient temp is about 15-20c so perhaps not great. I'll put the system under load and see what happens.
My system idles at like 45 degrees but then again it'd be running at 2.3 GHz compared to modern Intel CPUs that run at under 1 GHz when idling. Out of curiosity, does anyone know how low Ryzen chips clock when idle?

EDIT: 1.5 GHz if anyone is interested.

so, i5 8400 and i5 8600k on the way... forgot to cancel the K version... question is do i keep it for 8400 vs 1600 shoot out and sell it or return it so another person on the list doesn't have to sit and wait ....
To be honest, if you were feeling stingy you could take both, then sell the 8600k on ebay for a nice profit due to the stock shortages.

doesnt sit right for some reason- maybe as this series is a bit of a rush - plus ebay paid **** all taxes it seems for 2016 on bbc news >.<
Yeah, it's not what I would do either (would just cancel the K) but it's an option. A detailed comparison of the 8400 v 1600 would be nice. Going fully into MCE enabled and disabled, using intel stock cooler and not etc

have silent loop 240's for both and then both stock coolers - actually might have a spare ryzen one- if i didnt have the kids and more time would have modded it to fit intel socket haha

Blame the government for having such incredibly bad taxation systems. It’s one of those attempts to get a large percentage of what then becomes nothing instead of a small percentage of large something...

The 8600K will be significantly better than the 8400, especially considering you have been forced to get a Z370 motherboard. The 8400 will only make sense once budget mobos are out.

There is not a huge percentage difference in total cost between 8400 and 8600K with coupled with the same Z370 mobo.

The Z370 do let you run faster RAM with a 8400, which can have a big performance difference. It's about £90 between the i5 8400 and the 8600k - that's 50% of what the 8400 costs but you don't get +50% performance with the 8600k.

I don't know if you do me a favour orbitalwalsh but do you have FO4 installed?? I would be interested to see if what the performance delta would be like between both CPUs in a settlement?? If you install a mod called transfer settlements you can actually plonk in some ready made settlements into the game, which is where things can tax the CPU a bit. If its too much of a trouble fair enough though!

Well I'v read all I'm going to read, and searched all I'm going to search - i5-8400 ordered and a Extreme4 to go with it. Maybe i'll pop a 8700k in there in 6 months once stock isn't so rare, roll on next week!

Are we looking at another paper launch on 1st Nov for i7 8700k ? I don't want to be waitting until 2018 to get my hands on one because I know they are going to sell really well.

Has anyone prepared an idiot's guide to overclocking the 8700K? I think my temps/voltages at stock look good under Prime95 (see link) but just setting the multiplier to anything higher than 46 causes threads to stop working less than a minute into the stress test.
