Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

2800C18 is not the best ram mate to OC :/ especially 1.2v one...

Yeah I get that it was just the cheapest stuff I could find.

But right now I can't even underclock it.

Maybe I'm changing the wrong setting? The one with the arrow is the one I'm changing anything other than auto it doesn't boot even if I clock it lower than 28.

Let me put back as main system the 1800X which runs 4.1Ghz XFR at 7 cores, and 3600C15 ram succesfully and without issue....

from CptStig on ocn, what a board!

Yes you do :P
What you need to change is the one 3 items bellow. Memory Frequency :P

I don't disagree, but thats expected given the chip.
However Ryzen 1800X boosting 4.1 on 7 cores, and running fine with 3600C15 ram, is tad rare.

I agree, 7980xe seems to be binned pretty high.
your ryzen is a beast lol, I have no experience tweaking with AMD but I'have seen some run at 3466 max and your is 3600 left alone c15. Must gives significant performance boost compared to stock 2133-2400 ram.

Memory frequency is greyed out so can't enter anything, only way for me to change it is move the system memory multiplier.

Anyway going to try a bios update see if that gets me anywhere.

my potato drops 15-20*C after delided. :D

Same... similar volts and 5.3ghz doesn’t exceed about 65c under stress. Worth the 5 mins it took me with a Stanley blade.
Mine runs at pretty high volt tho 1.456-1.472v under with 1.47v llc6 in bios. Not that good of a cpu tbf. Your if I remember correctly runs at 1.41v 5.3Ghz?
The board is Z370 Strix ITX.

Apex, 1.4 not really tested a lot to be fair but 24/7 will be 5.1 I think as seems to be very good performance

Lol there are loads of stock of these now in various places but they all want nearly £500! What a bunch of *****. I hope they sell none.

Yep.

Also the i5 8600K makes more sense tbh. For someone like me who plays some very heavy CPU games on couple of cores (Total War Rome 2, Attila, Warhammer, TESO, SWTOR) or single thread ones like WOT, WOWS or those with weird engines which always insist to run on HT thread not real cores (Crusader Kings 2, Stellaris, Cities Skylines, EU4) must say that the 8600K is the best chip to get. Especially CK2 and Stellaris which have played thousands of hours over the years, they are far far better with the 8600K than with the 6700K @ 4.9Ghz, which I believe are comparable and came close to IPC and speeds. (8600K is at 5.1Ghz with 4.8Ghz ring).

This is the first time after a long period using a variety of CPUs (this is my 6th CPU since September 2016), that I do not want to buy something better. Because there isn't any.

Also the Asus Z370-I Strix, is absolute beast board for stability, overclocking, wifi (very strong 5ghz receiver), and is mITX!. Yes it has less the USB slots than my previous boards (X79A GD45, GA X99 UG, CH6) but they are just enough for all my devices.

Just my experience with the platform.

(yes still having the 1800X as dev machine upstairs doing my dev work and unity engine rendering for which is far superior to the 8600K).
