Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

To be fair a new chipset is required so motherboard manufacturers can produce something capable of handling the power draw...

Will they really have to handle more power than Kabylake when overclocked, though? I would have thought the motherboard's max power draw would remain around the same, meaning a few less MHz for 6/8 cores than with Kaby 4 cores. 200W for a 5.1GHz OC on Kaby 4 core v 200W for a 4.8GHz OC on Coffee 6 core, as an example.

Or they could say ok you can use them on Z270 but no overclocking (even though there should still be some room for overclocking). Would still upset people, but at least they could be used till they found some more money for an overclocking board.

Just asking. Maybe there's another requirement altogether, but being Intel and having the history they do, it's going to be a hard sell.

I would have thought the premium boards, with all their extra power phases etc., would be able to handle it.
Good old 1366/X58 handled a 4 to 6 core increase and a change of lithography.

Allegedly, wouldn't at all surprise me if they could issue a bios update to enable support but that's leaving money on the table for new chip-sets = new mobo.
