Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

CoffeeLake is using the old ring topology. Not the Mesh one used on the KabylakeX & SkylakeX.
KabyLake X doesn't use the mesh as they are the same dies as regular KabyLake but in different packaging to support the different socket.
Hence they have the same features and not the features of Skylake X which is a re-positioned Xeon platform so inherits from the server design.

Intel really take the P with fleecing their customers. No wonder loads are heading to AMD.
I'm glad that AMD caught up, but i won't be impressed until ZEN 2 if what they said is near accurate. Even if they get close to 5Ghz and not exactly hit that, would be very good. Guess I'll be waiting until at least ZEN 2 to decide if i should switch from my 5820k, anything current is more of a side step.

^I'm skeptical too, but I wouldn't rule anything out entirely as it's the first time in several years intel have not utterly controlled the market.

Of course, it is intel so a new 4c8t i3 could be priced at previous i7 levels whilst the new i7 costs the GDP of a small country :-P

A 4C/8T Core i3 would probably do me for a cheapo upgrade for FO4.

Edit!!

OTH,the Ryzen 5 1600 might also drop down in price too!!

Its a good thing I decided to not upgrade from IB last year!! :p

The gotacha will be it's locked to 3Ghz something, requires 4 sticks of RAM and a £300 motherboard :( It will also probably get destroyed by a the average 2500K system :p

Just reading that article it looks like the Z370 is a refresh of the KabyLake chipset and the chipset meant for CoffeeLake (Z390) won't be released until the start of 2018.
