Can't say I'm that bothered about this one. Higher single threaded performance makes sense given the 4.7GHz single core boost so it's pretty safe to say there's no real improvement to IPC in this gen yet again. Nice to see Intel finally upping the core count for mainstream after so many years but for some reason I just can't bring myself to get all that excited about this one.

I might be more interested in it if it does happen to work with my Z270 motherboard as after selling my 7700K it'll make for an affordable and simple upgrade to 6 cores but if not, my next upgrade is likely to be a next-gen Ryzen.

Yeah I think intel have made quite a mistake in requiring another board for these chips, I'd imagine we might see quite a few 7700k's and boards up for sale over the next couple of months.

Edit: So the cinebench score has the 8700k at 218 and the 7700k at 200 so that's 9% but bearing in mind the 8700k has a 200mhz turbo boost advantage. So it's less than 9% if that cinebench score is accurate.

Sounds garbage to me. 11% is probably the boost in clock speed, and the 51% increase comes from the 50% increase in cores.

This would be a drop in upgrade for current 1151 users such as myself, but if I'm getting a new motherboard it's going to be Ryzen.

These benchmarks was probably from few months old 8700K ES, look like much faster than 8 core Ryzen 7 1800X. The very interesting I noticed is 8700K scored 20020 Passmark, if it will be around that ballmark then it as fast as Broadwell-E 10 core 6950X at 3GHz scored 20017 Passmark.

I think Intel will want to shift as many CPU's and chipsets as possible before the enthusiasts slay them and people catch on. I'd image this will be a hard launch.

Multi performance is gluing more cores on, 50% more cores should be about 50% more multi performance....

Single performance is by clocking it higher a bit in the factory.

Not the most exciting improvement and might be exactly the same thing when put core to core and clock to clock.

The article you linked states the passmark score is made up? Probably best wait for actual benchmarks.

I wonder why the name of the IGP has changed despite having the same specs. I'd bet it's actually exactly the same.
