1440p is just an interim resolution imo.
Problem is for most users once you get to around 4K there is less and less benefit to using the extra resolution for additional screen estate and Windows really doesn't take advantage of extra resolution to for instance increase the number of pixels used to represent text and icons very well and other scaling. A lot of desktop users still do things where you are working at the pixel scale as well which becomes more complicated at those kind of resolutions.
Everyone will have a bit different appreciation and usage, etc. at these kind of resolutions but personally I've gone back to 1440p for most uses only swapping over to my 4K monitor when playing some games with controller and watching 4K movies, etc.
