Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

End of October, beginning of November is looking like the dates most likely. So all in only 2 months earlier than they would have launched if they followed the normal refresh cycle, which would have been Jan '18.

Great marketing from Intel, with the leaks pointing towards August however, keeping people from possibly jumping to AMD.

Depending on how long they leave it I'll probably just get Zen+, it was either Coffee Lake or Zen+ but with how long I've had to wait I'd like to get AMD for cheaper, even if it is ever so slightly slower, 50% of the price for 90% of the performance seems like a decent deal to me.

Very impressive multi-media performance, faster than Ryzen 7 1800X. :)
How does one actually compare these scores to other CPUs? The website is pretty much a mess. This has always been a benchmark that Intel has beaten AMD soundly in though, so your comment without context is pretty disingenuous...but you knew that already. The i7-7700K probably beats the R7 1800X in this benchmark.

So the 8700K is 14.7x faster than the 3770K?
That'll be encoding HEVC or something, which the older CPUs would have to do in software and Coffee Lake can do using dedicated hardware (QuickSync). Those kinds of numbers are why actual reviews of real-world usage are far more reliable than advertising numbers.

Yeah website are absolutely nightmare to search results, I am not going to bother waste 1 hour to search results on other CPUs. :o

I did a quick google to find 7700K, Ryzen 7 1800X and 8700K results ID in videocardz screenshot:

what does it matter if they do ? i dont get why so many get bent out of shape because intel do a different chipset.buy the best you can at the time be happy.whatever you buy is almost out of date as soon as you open the box.its tech.

say you buy the fastest cpu on a 270 platform what does that matter if the next platform is on a 470? by time you need to upgrade both will probably be insignificant anyway.

i swear you could bring out a 50 core intel chip at 15 quid and people on here would still moan :p

What improvements has Intel made between Z370 and Z170? What about the cheaper chipsets?

Upgrading chipsets only makes sense when there's a reasonable jump in technology, e.g. a new DDR or USB generation.

It looks like a 5820K but without an upgrade path.

Look the alternative is wait for CoffeeLakeX and pray is using Ring topology :/ (which means no optimisations are needed on games and drivers).
With CannonLake focusing on low power market, there is no replacement for the 8700K well into 2019/2020.

Bam - Nail. On. Head.

It is amusing when people try to justify it, it's plain and simple is so Intel make more $$$.

Imagine if you had an i5 6600, and now had the option to drop in an 8700K because when you bought the system it met your needs, but now they have changed. Rather then £350, it's now £350 plus £150 for another board, and you gain nothing extra.

The avalible clockspeeds will be key. I can't see the 8700K putting any meaningful distance between good stepping properly configured 5820K or the equivalent 6000 chip though. Well, apart from pointless IGP related tasks.
