Intel Xeon 3200 Series arrive at OcUK!!

Anyone know if one of these Xeons could be (a) run and (b) overclocked in my BFG 680i board?

I'm fairly sure about (a) but not so sure about (b).

Check how your board does with the already circulating quads. This Xeon is the same core you get in the home quads, ans the only difference being supposedly "higher" spec material used in manufacturing.

It can be overclocked but won't go far due to the boards fsb limitation with current quad core cpu's.

Hence the reason i chose the evga over any other as they 'fix' the problem if you request it.

just wondering what is the fsb limitation after the fix with quad? not sure which board to pick up at the moment for the xeon 3210.

thanks

If not running Sli - Abit AB9 QuadGT overclocks Xeon X3200 very well, seen the clocks.

thanks, but was looking for something which would give me 400fsb and also crossfire for ati new gfx cards. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

just out of interest what would be a good sli board that meets the 400fsb with a quad cpu?

thanks

I assume you have a revision 2 board :)

It sucks frankly, as people are talking about a 300FSB limit on overclocking a quad core on the early 680i boards - a big step backwards for me.

If there is anyone out there with a quad core on a BFG board please could they post!

They are all based on the reference design.

If you have a rev 1 mobo 300 is your limit.

Unless you have a EVGA rev 1 in which they will swap it out for you with a REV 2

How would an Asus P5B Deluxe cope with one of these?
Seemed to do ok in that review, but that could have been because it seems it was a es cpu.

same Q here (re P5B Deluxe). Also, anyone know if the intel D975xbx can handle one of these? quad core is getting to my price point now

actually, aren't there others that are slower per core? 1.6ghz?

anyone have any info on those chips?

Well the product page here on ocuk says it doesn't support quad core.
Yet the Asus website says it supports quad core.

I think I saw mention somewhere that it needs a bios update for it to work?

Anyone?

Yup, couldn't clock for jack with the rev 1 board, gtl mod is a godsend.

Wise Guy :p

We use Xeon Quads on our server at work and I tell you they get pretty stressed.

I wonder how well they OC compared to C2D

Edit: Stressed I mean used big time. 2x Xeons and about 10Gig ram

What are you running on it that stresses that? We obviously use xeons on our servers, but they are by no means stressed. Helps with stuff like batch runs, db checkpoints etc - but thats only a small fraction of the time

Ordered!

Saw there was 3 left and thought I better be quick just in case, since I may have a buyer for my current chip!

ps. I didn't get up early to make sure I got this order in, I'm trying to meet deadlines for work!!!!

appologies for the really stupid question (it is a monday after all :p) but on oc's it states the new Xeon's have Quadcore technology and on a competitor it says they are dual core :S, just curious are the infact Dual core cpu's or out and out quad's?

quads mate,

well they had better be lol. Intel say they are! ;)

Pink, canna believe you ordered yours at 5.30am lol.

Just hope as i say that it will clock to 3ghz or 3.2ghz 400mhz fsb would be nice. On my bad axe II
