Interlagos - Brazilian Grand Prix 2009 - Race 16/17

Bear in mind that if you are top driver, you can adapt. I know that Button struggles to do this, but I would expect Alonso and Hamilton to make the necessary adjustments. If Hamilton (in particular), is struggling to make his tyres last, he will simply work in an extra pit stop into the strategy and rely on brute speed to win races. Luckily for McLaren/Hamilton, this is an option.

Button has proved this year he LIKES a heavy car and is particularly kind to his tyres - so he shouldnt need to adapt that much.....

Brute speed wont be that much of an option with a number of teams using the same engine (on some tracks thats all its down to and all Merc's where together on the grid)

Indeed. But MS still won the title, despite being banned for 3 races and having 10 points deducted.

by cheating yes - just like Senna did

dont get me wrong both where incredible drivers, but they didnt need to cheat to win titles, and they both benefited at least once by doing this

Hang on, I was Mansells biggest fan I thought he was fantastic, just not sublime, more win at all costs.

When Hill had to he could drive very fast but also made the odd rash move.

Senna and Prost are the only two who I might call sublime, but they always had good cars.

Apart from Sennas last year.

actually Lauda was pretty sublime too

I guess the 6th palce finish wasn't that bad. could have had Button but he didn't want to spoil his day :p

Very pleased for Button and Brawn! Come a very long way since the winter. Deserved it in the end, due to the faultless performances in the first half of the season.

He was super fast.

Are you forgetting his qualifying session for the British GP in 1992. He was about 2 seconds faster than his team-mate and about 3 seconds faster than the next non-Williams car.

Sorry dude, but there is no way you can argue against that sort of raw speed. In fact, I can't remember on a dry track, anyone getting pole position by 2s. Mansell stands alone.

If a driver was 2s faster than the rest of the field in this day and age, you would all be calling him GOD!!!

If you give him a perfect car, Button will get the best out of it. We've seen him do that this year. But, when the car is even slightly less than perfect, he seems to struggle badly. Again, we've seen that this year. The likes of Barrichello, Hamilton and Alonso don't necessarily need the car to be perfect for them to get the best out of it.

So, in essence, you are betting that BrawnGP will provide Button with the perfect car next season (just as they did in the first half of 2009). Its not impossible, but it is improbable.

Only time will tell though, as they havent even unveiled next year's cars yet. We are debating this about 3 months ahead of time.

Thats what I was thinking LOL.

I mean, the guy earns millions and lives in Monaco, but he is buying second hand cars. WTF!

I never realised he was so money conscious. If this is the case, I must take my hat off to him.

Is that the hat you was going to eat :p

And even when old and past it he still went faster in the reasonably priced car than Button could manage.

Mansell is a true racer. He just wants to go fast, at all times. Its an ego thing. Senna and Piquet were exactly the same.

Hamilton is cut from the same cloth and is probably the only driver in F1 right now, who wants to be fastest at all times, even when it counts for nothing.

Personally, I blame Schumacher for this general change in attitude (which occurred in the early 90s), where he would go fast, only when necessary. From that point, a lot of drivers stopped trying to be the fastest in all practise/qualifying sessions and the race. Thats one thing I disliked about MS.
