International football & World Cup Qualifiers 9th Sept **spoilers**

But do you not agree UEFA had to stamp down on it. Someone had to be made an example of.

It's just unfortunate for you that Eduardo happens to play for the team you support.

I've always agreed that it needed stamping out, but once you start, you should carry on. Rooney has dived twice since then, winning penalties both times, but that's just shrugged off etc, etc etc.

Anyway, good decision for MOTM.

This is one of the worst Croatian performances that I can ever remember, although we have played pretty well at times, SA, here we come.:D

But it had to happen to someone. There's no denying that.

Eduardo just got unlucky that UEFA were on their period.

Hopefully now we see more players get the same treatment.

And that's the point - if e.g. Young was penalised the next day, and other simulation was being punished, then no Arsenal fan would feel aggrieved that it had happened.

But he was "made an example of", and then...well, nothing else occured. Since precedant as it turns out wasn't being set, then what on earth was the point at having a go at Eduardo? It was a whimperish gesture, one that then is hypocritically being moaned at en masse.

Rooney didn't dive against Arsenal.

Listen to any critic who generally knows what they are talking about and they all agreed it was a certain pen .I'd rather not get into that though.

Difference between 'riding' a challenge and 'diving'. Momentum and outstretched arms = penalty

Falling over before being touched is diving in my book mate, he could easily have knocked the ball past and buried it.

WHAT? Do you have selective vision?

No. If you think Rooney dived against Arsenal you clearly don't watch enough football.

Countless referees have analyzed the tackle on Sky Sports News and all came to the same decision.

They generally know what is and isn't a penalty. Especially from replays.

Simulation was heavily involved during the challenge. Yes the keeper didn't pull out but it's easy to see that Rooney would have fallen in the same way had Almunia had done so. Rooney's also done it before. Punishing him would have been more apt. But UEFA don't have the donkeys for that player, and at 0-1, that situation. Easy for a game that was well beyond Celtic to go and make an example.

If Gustov's going to have massively selective vision about who's posts he reads, can we just not bother discussing Eduardo here please? The debate is obviously not going to go anywhere.

That's why people are defending Eduardo, because UEFA have categorically said that this was a one off.

Their reasoning was that Eduardo put Celtic at a massive disadvantage by winning a penalty, regardless of the fact that Celtic needed 3 goals before the pen to go through, and needed 3 afterwards (away goal rule) to win, so the penalty really didn't have any relevance. This is ignoring the fact that Celtic were never in a million years ever going to progress to the CL.

I am not defending Eduardo, I just think his punishment is a disgrace and none of it makes sense. They've singled him out and keep coming up with stories to explain it but made themselves look even more stupid every time

Whatever mate, we disagree on a point, no need to say things like that.

Serbian bloke gets red card; I am mildly less apathetic.

Just realised, Serbia's central defensive pairing is Skrtel and Vidic. That would scare the **** out of me if I were a striker.

The Rooney penalty was a penalty, but only because Almunia didn't pull out like Boruc did, Rooney and Eduardo did basically the same thing, the only difference being Boruc wasn't as dumb as Almunia. Both anticipated contact before it was made.
