Therse a BIG difference from buying clothes online and Meeting your girlfriend/wife ONLINE..
The way its going standard traditions wont even happen or be done the same anymore..
Because you meet online and never ever meet in the "real world" and continue from there? 
Online dating is another form of introduction to Pubs, clubs, work places, hobbies etc. It probably opens up a much larger demographic of people who are more suited to your lifestyle and interests.

I've met some great people online. Your very statement is naive and ignorant at best. Other than that you sound like a total tool.

Things change, dude, look at what we're doing now! Why aren't we discussing this over a pint and some roasted peanuts at the bar? Because both we and what we do has evolved, progressed, whatever you want to call it. Meeting people online, for whatever reason, is no different. Deal with it, adapt to it, at the very least respect other people's decisions and thoughts on it, or get out of the way and let the rest of the human race get on with it...

At the end of the day, that one time when your all infront of your computers on a friday/saturday night and you turned down going out with friends that was the biggest mistake of your lives... you could have went OUT and met that girl of your dreams.. people should really try it in here.

The girlfriend/wife experience usually isn't just limited to online though. Most people would meet in person before pronouncing girlfriend or wife status

This, I go out all the time, and with the intention of having fun, not picking up some random birds.
3 out of 4 of my long terms relationships were from the internet (2 on forums, 1 on POF), which is miles better than my 'IRL' track record. Most random girls you meet out are drunken ***** with nothing interesting about them.
I have never tried internet dating.
But I thought the whole point was to set dates up during the week, then go on dates with the people. Not just to sit in front of the pc.

This. My girlfriend messaged me on pof with no pics, but she sounded interesting so i got back to her. We txted for a couple of days, arranged to meet, met, and are now practically inseperable.
I agree its weird if you try to conduct a relationship over the net, but as a form of introduction you get to know someone a lot better than you do when off your trolley in a club.
