turned out to be such a **** lol, was the worst date i'd ever been on, she was so irritating - said stuff like 'I love going on dates, I've been on loads, and was just generally nothing like she was on the internet really. a real ****.

thanks for listening

This is my first post in this thread, but thought I'd ask all those who's used online dating for a while for a little bit of advise.

Now, I've been chatting to this girl now via Zoosk (facebook application) for the last week, and we both said we really like the sound of each other and would like to meet up at somepoint for a date)

Now she lives 2hours drive away (not a problem for either of us), but before we both start talking about seeing each other on a date to see how we connect.

....at what stage (ie how quickly) would you give a girl your mobile phone number (to text at first) and then talk to them? Once you've established you both get on really well via email/msg's?

As I'm not wanting to rush this one as she's a real keeper! :D

Depends how well you get on and if you find her interesting enough to give her those details.

If you have been in contact for a week and it's going well then I see no reason not to give your number to her and leave it up to her to make contact via phone/text.

On tuesday Im going to meet a girl off the net but its only 5 miles away lol so its no problem, shes 17 though and Im 25 now!

ive also met a girl before from manchester (droylsden) or something. Spent 5 nights with her was well good but she had a bf. Still have a really good time however despite the 8hr 45 min coach journey!!

Just found out she's moving down near London soon (I live in the North East), why do all the nice girls always live at the other end of the UK!!!

Msn chat is going well after 90mins, still not given/offered her my phone number though :s

Anyone else think this topic has derailed a little from discussing internet dating as a viable forum to meet potential partners, to offering early stage interaction advice for internet dating?

Not in the slightest, it gives people a true insight into what they are likely to be letting themselves in for, therefore they can make an informed decision as to whether it is a viable alternative or not.

I had a rant a few weeks back saying "that's it **** the lot of them, they are all nut cases.

Now I find myself on zoosk through facebook (dont appear to have to pay if you go through the FB website)
I know it's going to end in tears but I still find myself browsing all the unwanted cast offs :(

Posts #4388, #4389, #4392, and their ilk throughout this thread evinces my point.

But, do not get defensive. I am pro-internet dating. I haven't had success (I'm picky), however, it gives you information on a person, saves you a LOT of time and money, provides access to a infinitely bigger catchment area, there's endless more clear advantages.
