Internet Dating.....Who Has Done it?!

Contemplating actively looking for something/someone in the near future.

Been single since the beginning of the year as a relationship of around 18 months came to a mutual end for a few reasons the main one being that our lives were heading in different directions for the meantime and it wasn't going to be workable.

Initially I've enjoyed the space and time to myself as there we lots of things I wanted to do/not do & relax. I pop back home which is around 30 minutes drive away and see my friends reasonably regularly however they all have lives to live and aren't always available or are with their other halves.

I do miss being in a relationship but will be starting some professional exams in August so am not too sure if I will actually have the time for one come the end of the year. I guess the worst case scenario is that I make some friends and have nothing to loose.

I don't think I have any feelings tying me down for my ex except those which exist because nothing better has come along :p

I have lots of friends that are female and can get on with them just as well, if not better, than my male friends but have found approaching people without an introduction difficult unless exceptionally drunk or having sensed a mutual interest/attraction.

^^ know most of that sort of feeling, best thing to do is just give it a bash, have a few dates, remind your self there are other females out there and have a bit of a laugh with it :p

Sounds like a good approach. Is the general consensus on most of the sites like match, eharmony etc all the same, I imagine being subscription services they're slightly better than POF? that said I'm sure there are diamonds in the rough about the place.

Agree with above to use it as a springboard. It gets boring quickly to be honest, and I do think a lot of women on there are serial daters, just out to be wined and dined.

Had an unexciting date the other week, and I think I will give up with the online stuff simply due to the sheer amount of women I have been meeting in real-live at various parties lately, it's insane. Now started dating a lovely girl (with epic boobs, which is awesome as all my exes were B or less :D) so will see how that goes.

im not chasing her, although ive replied to her texts, im keeping it short and to the point also with no x's. just to be polite, but im not pushing for another date, as she will just cancel again.

ill log on to my pc later and nose around on pof and send out a few more messages.

Sorry to hear that dude but don't get caught in the text trap... seems she is just looking for attention. if I were you I would ignore her and move on to the next girl.

Depends on area really, bucks (like most of the areas around London) has a better ratio of crazy to acceptable in public....

Wouldn't pay for online dating though, get the impression that is for people who are serious about ending up with someone (regardless of how suitable they are).

So yeah for the bit of a laugh good dates approach stick with the free services for now, at least to get your eye in for what you want/how to go about online dating in general.

Think it depends on the age group too. When I was on last time (around 24), was so easy for "quick wins". Now (28) dynamic is completely different; most are looking for something serious.

Well lads I've just taken a leap of faith and signed up to POF. So far after 24hours its going well as I've had a few nice looking girls message me who seem to have put a lot of effort into the first message.

Not read through much of the thread (other than the last few pages) but how do you guys go from the odd message to a first date? Also how many messages is too many?

Edit-Also how quickly should one respond to a new message if the girls still online lol

I personally would say wait no longer than a week to ask someone on a date otherwise they might lose interest. (A lot of people might say sooner though).
I'm writing to a couple of guys now - I just send one message to them a day as I'm at work so can't send any more even if I wanted to :D
Regarding the girl still being online - I might be inclined to wait until the next day as you don't want to look too desperate. Again, just my opinion :)

I don't think there are rules to anything. If the conversation is fluid and inviting, just ask. If you want to reply, reply. Games for the sake of it suck, and girls who play them aren't worth it :P

The girl I am seeing at the moment (who is the only decent girl I've met on there), I asked her within a day to meet as the messages exchanged were fluid and good.

So POF? any good? thinking of giving it a try, never done anything like it before, does the profile matter that much or do they just go for pics? dont even know where to start with messages tbh, all very new to me, tips, ideas?

At least one reasonable picture of you looking normal enough (not drunk, not badly taken, not full of the lads getting in the way) and a bit of being your self chatter, nothing pushy, nothing offensive but your self

Unless you are pushy and offensive and want a woman that goes for that... Then you'll see the dark side of pof....

Just be your self anyway, opening messages need no more than 3 things to talk about but more than hey or hey how are you, aka read their profile a bit or just tell a cheesy joke, then hope they like a nice picture of you (not a formal picture either if its your only one) and enjoy reading the comical babble about your self. Also put something interesting as a first date, coffee/drinks are old so put something interesting like you are keen to do something fun for a date.

That said most the women I have met from the internet have been a bit weird anyway so its either all women on the internet are mad or I attract them, need more evidence though.

I've been chatting to some Doris off Oasis lately, I wouldn't normally bother but she is in the next town so local & she is my type & we get on. She's asked me out for a T & a stroll in the park or summit which I think I'll take her up on.
I have to admit to not being interested in web dating at all over the last few months as the Doris always seem to fall into one of three categorys.

1.Mental
2.Mental
3.Mental.

I find it funny that you call women Doris :D

There is actually a very good reason for it that goes way back to my teenage years.
If you introduced a new girl to our lot as your Doris then she was just another girl/one of the lads/An Easy rider kind of thing but if you introduced a new girl as your Woman then she is shown the same amount of respect that the person introducing her gets.

Summary.
Doris = Easy Rider.
Your Woman = Queen. :D

this is ridiculous, im not being funny but im only 55kgs and my picture reflects this, profile also says 'thin'

SO WHY DO I ONLY GET MESSAGES FROM 20ST WOMEN!!!!

They wanna eat you!!! :D Same happens to me.

First time I've met someone non POF for ages at the weekend. Had an ace night, plenty of fun, flirting, kissed her etc. Texted next day! NOTHING! :(

On a positive note it reminded me what it feels like to fancy someone properly. Most POF dates I've been on have been a bit meh.

Might try a last ditch effort to contact in a day or two.

I'm currently doing the 3 day free trial on Match again but will probably stick with POF.
