I've been talking to a friend of mine tonight...he's done some internet dating but hasn't been successful.
A lot of you have spoken about POF - what site is that? I'm guessing Plenty of Fish. I said I'd try and find out a bit more for him.
Also he's mid-40's. Knowing him he'll be looking for women mid-late 30's and above to his age and a bit older.
Does he stand a chance? Has anyone found someone in this age group?

online dating drives me nuts! i've given it a break for a while, account still active but not used, came back to it a while ago but was very little effort, until sunday i put a good load of time into it and start getting a few replies, one from a girl i think seems great and really the only one i'm interested in. between sunday and tuesday there was 6 messages each going back and forth, and i was ready yesterday to ask for a number when she replies. nothing happened. she usually replies 11pm so midnight i checked and she's online so figured i'd get a message soon but nothing ever came. just got home checked and see she's online again. go back to check after diner and she's gone offline and no reply.
this is so standard how how i find online dating goes. literally no reason what so ever replies just stop. it makes me start doubting everything i say, but i know really every message has been more then fine so i cannot understand why this happens.
it's frustrating as i also start getting hope, start looking forward to a reply so i can take it to the next stage.
has anyone ever messaged a girl and asked why the heck they stopped messaging? i can understand if perhaps someone else they're more interested in came along, heck i've done this too, but it's so common now i'm left wondering what else can i do. i think should i go for number quicker, i've done this before and get no reply, so think ok maybe leave it longer, leave it and then replies stop and i think damn should have tried to get it quicker.

I'm no dating expert by any stretch of the imagination but I think your maybe putting too much stock into what happens and are maybe expecting too much too soon, the main problem is as others have said most women on these dating sites are either after a free night out, or an ego boost. I've personally messaged probably a few hundred women over the past few months and have had messages go back and forth a few times before it stops and I just think "Oh well suit yourself" Most don't ever bother to reply and that should be fine too... Eventually though you'll get chatting to someone you quite like who quite likes you and you'll get that highly coveted first date....
Me personally I'm not that bothered, I go on PoF just to chat to girls mostly, yeah I'd quite like to meet someone eventually and would like to get it away a few times but I'm by no means desperate and I'm more concerned with getting myself back on track... So maybe focus on yourself, build the kind of life you want and makes you happy and then getting a girlfriend just becomes the icing on the cake!

Sounds like you're taking it too seriously. Don't get hung up on the one girl! It sounds like she's one of those who messages whoever takes her fancy at the time. Someone better than you probably came along, so for now you're second best. Move on to the next girl... no one should be second best all the time!
