I think I used to state in my POF profile 'no under 5'8's' or something... but then i realised how rude it was so I took it off. It just meant I had to ignore more messages from guys who were shorter than me

Signed up for POF on the 7th, and just last night gathered the wherewithal to finally make my profile public. Need to get a decent headline, but struggling at the moment. I thought I could incorporate what I do somehow, but I don't think 'So, like seamen?' Would exactly leave the impression of me I'm going for....

I've been on POF for ages now and been on a few dates but not much to shout about. I seem to get lots of views but hardly any messages. Have asked on here before for advice on my profile and made some changes but still the same amount of response. Any ideas?

Completely delete the first sentence.
I'd remove the bit about TV marathons. Women are generally looking for their dream guy, so I think watching TV for hours would give the wrong impression.

The problem with the first line is most of your target audience will switch off by the time they've read the first few words, with many not even bothering to read everything else.
I did a lot of research into this, including getting a load of female mates to review my profile.

Could send that to a thousand girls on the internet and get 10 responses, one of which maybe leads to a conversation.
If you want a proper response at very least say something that will get her attention/encourage a response, if she isn't interested then she isn't but be creative in what you say in your opening message. I used to send cheesy jokes but there are plenty of different things to get them excited that you decided to send them an interesting first message.
