Shallow or not it's completely true. Someone can have the greatest personality in the world but if they aren't attractive they will just be a nice person.

surely you could have the pick of anyone you wanted. you have no need to worry about that.I thought I was getting less fussy with age, but then there are just some levels I wont go to, and fat is one of them.
Not sure I agree with that; if you know someone for a decent amount of time, looks can become less important. It's just not going to happen on first sight.
I don't mind a few extra pounds, but I don't think I could date anyone who was obese. Have a bit of respect for yourself and make an effort IMO.

Why could she have the pick of anyone she wanted? Not sure of the logic behind that.
Looks are crucial... if you don't find someone sexy and want to have sex with them on a regular basis, then unless you both have an incredibly low sex drive to the point where it doesn't matter then the relationship is doomed to fail imo.
Just registered on POF and another specific to the country i'm in. I went for a profile that doesn't try to be too wity or clever, but that has a bit of personality still, so it should appeal to a broader audience than in the past when i've tried to be too clever or too individual. I'll update you as I get any news or info. 
i know one i girl and i get on with her so well i would even say we would be perfect together.. but she just does NOTHING for me on the looks department, and i could never be with a girl that i am not physically attracted too

Less important perhaps, but it's still a huge factor. Someone who isn't physically attractive is not going to be more than date material. Certainly wouldn't work long term.
Have to say I agree with you here. When I met my current Mrs I didn't actually fancy her to begin with, oddly enough for me that came later, it was her personality that attracted me first.

Guys!! Seriously the key to the getting messages malerky is 40% pictures, 10% profile, and 50% when you log in.
Because I work from home I was messing about all day and would get a fair amount of messages. For the only reason I can imagine is that I was appearing first in the list and in the little pictures too.
Since I've given up and not bothered as I'm seeing someone I've received maybe 1 message in two weeks.

Well, just got my first bite, 25 year old girl local to me, brunette, seems pretty cute too. Half English so language or humour isnt a problem (I live abroad), and she also Scuba Dives which is pretty awesome as i've just started getting into that. Not bad for a first message, think i'll arrange a simple for a drink date in a bar... then if she turns out weird I can make a sharp exit after an hour or so.

That is a 300% rise on my average, I've changed nowt, I've chatted to the 2 fittest ones so far & will get around to the other 4 in time. I think maybe the last bank holiday of the year & Xmas being on it's way is what's caused the increase as previously things get much more active in the months up to Xmas, Started a bit early this year by the looks of it.
