** iOS 8 **

Downloaded ios 8 pretty much when it was released... Been working fine on my iPhone 5 until last night when the phone flashed a load of junk then died. Charged all night and nothing... Not even the charge me type symbol...

Took it to work to try with my other charger and still nothing... Tried to turn it on this afternoon and it worked for around 15 minutes (enough time to empty my collectors in CoC :)) then it died again :(

Downloaded and connected it to iTunes. Said it was in recovery mode and needed ios 8.2... 6 Hours remaining...

Nice one Apple :(

Apparently the guy who did the quality assurance on iOS8 is the same guy who did it for Apple Maps. Article on Bloomberg:

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-09-25/apple-s-iphone-software-snafu-has-links-to-flawed-maps.html

Evidence of weak leadership if you ask me. He would never have stayed in Jobs era.

That article is disgusting. Naming the guy is going to ruin his life.

Also, Steve Jobs was alive when Maps was released so you can hardly say he would have been fired. He wasn't. Scott Forstall took that honour shortly after Steve died.

I have an Iphone 5s and i am having an utter nightmare since upgrading to iOS8. I have apps crashing all the time including the browser. Randomly they will just crash out to home screen. I am having problems with WiFi but this may be related to my poor(and possibly faulty SH2) and really poor little bugs like stuttering/double text alerts etc. I even upgraded to iOS8.0.2 last night as it stated a lot of bug fixes etc but it has in fact made it worse.. :(

Oh, I must have dreamt he'd presented it onstage :o:p

That said, maps was in development long before he died, and I bet he sat on at least one development meetings, so the fact it performed badly in real world is testament to the closed nature of the internal teams.

I still think they fired the right guy (Forstall). He was SVP and he carried the buck for that mess. The fact that this one QA guy was on both teams (maps and iOS 8) is surely coincidental. Would he have been fired in the Steve Jobs era? Perhaps, there's certainly enough precedent in the official autobiography but then it's impossible to say.

What ever happened to those responsible for MobileMe? We're they all fired? I cba to google it :D

started having internet disconnect issues and web page fails again today on 8.02. Called Apple asking for a way to re-install 7 and they basically said tough.

Think I will be getting rid and going back to Android.

  • Plug the phone in to the PC
  • Backup
  • Hold the power + home button until iTunes says the phone is in recovery mode
  • Click restore
  • When the phone reboots set it up "as a new iPhone"

You will lose your data, but you can use it like this to verify it's not a hardware issue. Then, if you're happy it's not you can restore from your backup :)

How do I link facebook contact information in the contacts app? Phpme numbers and emails from outlook are fine but it appears I'm just getting a random few facebook contacts. The only account that is actually linked is mine and when I update Facebook contacts in the settings it says "0 contacts updated".

Any particular thing I'm missing? WP and to a lesser extent android would link accounts from multiple sources together and as far as I'm aware iOS should do that too. I'm mostly looking for the photos so I dontjust get little grey circles for my favourites...

First time when I did the OTA to 8.0 , had all sorts of issues. It was freezing after exiting messages and all sorts of weird behaviour.

Downloaded and did the upgrade via iTunes, haven't had any problems at all.

Can't even notice any difference with battery life. Perhaps it uses more in Safari, but that's about it.

Such a strange strange beast this iOS 8.

Wife has iPad (3?) with IOS 7 on it - tried ploughing through stuff above - should we go to IOS 8 or not? Totally confused!

Thanks, Mel

I have an iPad 2 and I am not bothering as its slower than 7. There's nothing new in iOS 8 I need right now.

As apps get released but only support iOS8 onwards I might have to reconsider.

Getting seriously hacked off with iOS8 on my 5S, updated to 8.0.2 OTA and my wifi (over multiple access points) absolutely stinks. So slow to open up simple websites and streaming anything is a no go. Any other non iOS8 are fine. Why should I have to wipe and reset? I don't want to waste hours downloading everything from scratch.
