I highly doubt they would give it an A6 cpu as that would hurt sales for the full sized iPad, at the most it will be an a5x with a screen resolution the same as the iPad 4 in a smaller form factor.

Indeed, anything bigger than 7 inches is far too large and cumbersome for me. For other people it might be fine to carry around a 10" device but for me its just too big and cumbersome despite what the raging apple fanboi's will have you believe:p.

If this rumour of an ipad mini is true then i might pick one up for myself, purely for apps as there are some apps that just arent available on the playbook at the moment.

Personally apple missed a trick here by not releasing a smaller version of the ipad.

What i would like to see is a wide screen ipad
 
I recently bought an iPad 3 after debating over whether to wait for this iPad mini and I'm glad I didn't as the rumours are leaning towards it not having a retina display which is a big factor for me on the device. Granted due to the smaller screen size, an iPad 2 screen resolution would result in an increased dpi but it won't come close to the iPad 3 display which is just great.

Your iPhone isn't a mini tablet, and cannot really be used to view full webpages, as a tablet can.

As for the widescreen iPad...remember that web browsing plays a large part of the iPad's appeal. A widescreen iPad would be great for video, but pretty poor for everything else.
 
I'll be buying one if it does come out. I love my iPad 2 and use it everyday but it's not as portable as I would like. And as I mostly read on it 7" is pretty much the ideal size for reading, weight reduction would also be welcome.

Yeah, I think an iPad Mini could be a good addition but also don't understand how it will fit in. Obviously would have to cost less than the normal iPad unless they are thinking of charging a premium over normal for a smaller device. :o
 
I dumped my Transformer Infinity for the Nexus 7, the infinity is a great tablet but the size and weight just make it uncomfortable to use. Also the aluminium back is very prone to scratches.

However the Nexus 7 is perfect, the size and weight are just right and the back is textured plastic which is much more forgiving when it comes to scratches so I don't have to be extra careful with it all the time.

I can see Apple having allot of success with a the mini iPad but do wonder how they will compete with the Nexus 7 for value.
 
I'm desperate to see what Apple comes up with to compete with Amazon Kindle Fire HD and Google Nexus 7 but as someone already mentioned it's going to be gimped somewhat if they don't want to kill the new iPod touch before it even gets going.

They can't radically alter the screen from iPad as they like to keep the apps running without weird scaling.
 
I'll have to wait for a surface price announcement before I decide between that or the iPad Mini most likely. As long as it's got the same functionality in all area's like the iPad win/win (haven't done any research, just wouldn't mind a slimmer and smaller iPad to use during the day/before bed)

The Surface is a different class of product altogether though. If you don't need the capability of a PC then something like an iPad would be great, but otherwise it's not even an option.

The Windows 8 version perhaps but there is the Windows RT version which would compete with iPad?
 
I don't see where this would fit in, price-wise. It's supposed to be a smaller, cheaper iPad. But the new iPod Touch comes in at £249, which doesn't leave much room to play... £299 is expensive for a 7" (But I guess that's Apple for ya) and a lot of people would rather just pay £100 more for the real deal... Unless they throw in cellular... Then maybe :)
 
Even the Surface RT comes with Office RT, USB/HDMI/microSD etc. so it's a step above the normal iPad - let alone a Mini. If you don't need all that then you might as well save money/size/weight/battery life etc. by going with the Mini.

I just think its a bit of a stretch to compare the two.

Ah, OK. I thought it was only the Windows 8 Intel version that had all that gubbins.
 
I had a play with the Nexus 7 a few days ago and thought the size was spot on. The iPad and ones that size have their place, but I think a mini would sell very well as its less cumbersome to hold and use.
 
7" form factor is spot on. If they price it right with some idiot friendly marketing they'll be onto a winner. With the screen quality of the bargain bucket nexus 7 they can't really use ipad2 quality display and still justify a £300 price tag so will be interesting what price point/quality it emerges at.
