iPad Mini...

I'm so confused....

You love the Mini and how convenient it is so you're selling your 3rd gen iPad to get one. However when the iPad 4G is available, you're going to sell the mini and go back to a full sized one?

EDIT - Never mind, by 4G I thought you meant 4th Gen iPad, gotcha now

So I'm going the other way. I have a 3rd generation and I decided today to buy a Mini to replace it.

I already preordered a 4G version but after playing with it tonight in the apple store I'm going to buy a wifi version and sell my iPad 3 with 3G immediately and then just sell the wifi only mini when my 4G version comes.

Why?

Because I always use the iPad everywhere I go and the 9.7 inches is large and heavy to carry around. If I only used it at home or occasionally in Starbucks I wouldn't mind. But I love my iPad.

And the smaller form factor and how light it is amazed me.

My only concern was losing the retina display but I can safely say that the smaller screen size takes away my concerns. Yes there is some pixelation but its far less than the iPad 2 and not enough to put me off.

The convenience is far more useful than the retina display.

I just hope I can buy a wifi model tomorrow in a store! Do tesco have them?

Having seen a mini could you justify owning both (mini and 3)? Maybe not yourself personally but could you see a market for people having both?

Sorry I meant LTE version not fourth generation iPad with retina. I played with the new retina version and I couldn't see any immediate upgrades with speed or performance. I'm sure in practice it is much better but it didn't jump out at me which makes it almost impossible to justify that upgrade.

As for having both - absolutely.

But I think you will find yourself using the mini all the time due to its form factor and will decide to sell the big iPad because is isn't being used!

O decisions. Decisions!

I'm really taken by the iPad...more than i thought i would. I've held off all these years without having one as I was always waiting for the upgrade.

I was thinking when I was out that I would take my Mini back and go for a 4 but now I've got home and held the thing again...it's just such a nice size...I really don't know what to do. Thank consumer law for 14 days...going to use it this week I think and see if it's ok for what I need.

I'm quite taken with it, and personally would be way more likely to buy one of these than a full size iPad.

The geek in me agrees about it needing retina, needing to be faster, and watching people play with them today you can see that it's slower than the 4th gen iPad.

However... the form factor is lovely, the speed is not a problem, the screen looks great (could look better), it's a nice bit of kit. I really like the new style of this and the 5th gen iPod touch.

I'm really tempted by a Nexus 7 or similar, but imo Android just doesn't have the tablet apps like iOS does, the developers haven't done enough yet.

My conclusions:

a) We'll sell loads

b) They do what people want in the way they want it, which is why a)

c) of course there'll be a retina displayed, faster model next year, but won't there always be a better model?

d) I've decided the 7" bracket is nicer, in my opinion, than the 10"

e) This tablet war that's about to erupt is great for the consumer and they're going to get better and better

This is absurd and a perfect example of how ridiculous people are about tech these days.

A colleague of mine whose day off it was today came in to see them, he really likes it and said, and this is a direct quote, 'that would be really nice for when I'm out for a walk'.

Who needs a tablet when they're out for a walk?!

This nutter has got an iPhone 4s, he and his girlfriend have an iPad 3 each, and he has an 11" MBA and a 13" MBP. He's got a Kindle as well.

In his two bedroom flat there's already two Apple TVs and two Zeppelins with Airport Expresses attached to them.

He's already justifying this in his mind and I'm sure he'll have one within three months. He just wants everything and will do whatever he has to to justify the purchases.

Using a browser that allows you to increase the font size (like Perfect Browser) really helps with the low res on text based sites like this.

looks great but dont think i would want an ipad and an ipad mini. When my ipad 2 gives up the ghost or becomes too outdated (probably not for years yet!) I will switch to a mini.

What on earth, you have got to be joking? He really has a girlfriend too?
