I'd agree with you about other devices, but not the iPhone, I really don't think that for most people the primary use for an iPhone is making/receiving calls at all.

And how does this problem stop you receiving calls or texts? Do you keep the phone in your hands all the time? If it's in your pocket, or on a desk or anywhere else then it's not going to suffer and will still receive calls/texts just as well as before.

Yes when you are not using your phone then you will recieve calls and texts however if you are borwsing the web flicking thoguh music selections etc etc you are not going to be able to recieve calls or texts.:)

Do you not think there's a principle involved when you've been sold a high-end phone that doesn't work adequately as a phone and then told that you're in the wrong?

I actually find it amazing that after buying the phone people are considering buying a bumper case from Apple to fix their design fault!

but the 3GS was the same? in fact, worse, because you can't avoid touching the bottom no matter which hand you use.

Some people were saying you had to some kind of crazy death grip to get it to do that on the 3GS. The fact that people are getting the issue whilst touching the phone with two fingers is laughable.

People have got to remember that the Nexus one also suffered issues at launch - one of them rather familiar. The phone loses signal if you shield the bottom of it with your hands, as that's where the antenna is. It's not bad enough to regularly drop calls, but it does happen.

Let's look at this from a slightly different perspective.

I just called my brother to test this.

I walked around the house and didn't have the call drop.

I couldn't do that with my 3G or my 3GS, neither of those phones could get a signal in here except from the window ledge in my shack or the 4th stair up (yes, that was the only stair where they worked).

So I deduce from this that the iPhone 4 is significantly better at getting a signal in here than the previous two models. I'm using exactly the same grip, I've just moved it up about an inch on the phone, it doesn't really feel any different.

So tell me again about it not working adequately as a phone?

You can't justify the Apple device performing poorly by pointing out that there are other devices that perform poorly!

What would the public reaction have been if Apple, at launch, would said there is a signal issue unless you hold the phone in a certain way?

Yeah, buying a phone that essentially has major trouble holding a signal and calling people (thus crippling its internet ability too) when you pick it up isn't a problem at all.

Blown out of proportion and all that jazz.

Can I please remind your goodself and everyone else that I was riddiculed on this very forum for a post I made six months ago. I created a thread stating that the 3GS has reception issues due to the location of the aerial.

Now our new iPhone 4 has NO reception issues no matter which hand you hold it with.

Well, you've had to change how you hold it (however small an inconvenience that is to you), which many people would not deem acceptable.

Many people are having issues with calls dropping and so forth, so it is clearly a problem.

I wish people would just admit while it is a nice device, it has a rather big problem and Apple need to do something about it rather than telling you to hold it differently.

No doubt at some point there will be an iPhone 4SE (special edition) somewhere down the line which fixes the antenna issue, which is why I don't buy brand new tech as soon as it is released.

I'm not justifying it, I'm just saying the iPhone isn't the only device to suffer in this way.

That made me chuckle :)

Me too, think that might come back to haunt Steve and his 'your holding it worng' email. I kind of agree with you that the issue is being blown up to more than it is but I don't think it is as minor as you do and I'm going to quite enjoy seeing Steve try and dig his way out of this one.

Seems I'm not alone in the texting issue but people are having issues with AT&T :/ Anyone else having it? Seems some people just don't receive all my texts I send :/

Went to an O2 store in Bristol today and played with the 6 on display, all of them dropped 2/3 bars when touching the sides together!!

Listening to someone in a post office que (she doesn't really understand the problem lol) who has just bought a 3GS and she knows about this problem but by the sounds of it the sales man was blowing it abit up!!
