what is hilarious is the involvement by folk in this thread who have not purchased the iPhone 4 and have no intention of doing so, typical BB and Android folk with nothing better to do then to throw about some sarcy comments.

I'm going to test mine when I get home.

Oh go cry me a river mate...i was very close to buying one today but decided not to...its not sarcy comments,...its the apple fanboi's who cant accept that the phone has a serious issue and are still willing to part with their cash.

Lets make one thing clear...at least BB's and Android phones work and dont have reception problems;):p and neither are we insulted when the owner of a company who more or less relies on the general public to buy his gear turns around and says your holding the phone wrong....i really really hope this comes and bites him hard on the backside...

Just been trying to replicate the reception problem. I am sat in my room with 5 bars on O2. Holding the phone in either hand, ensuring I am touching the bottom left and bottom right and as much of the sides as possible... so far it dropped 1 bar but then went back up to 5 bars. :)

I need to try it in different places where reception isn't as good.

Spawn, you know you want one. :D

I didn't realise people bought the iPhone to actually use it for calls.

Mine is just for show - I have a 10 year old Nokia for voice calls ;) :p

I'm with Spawn, I want to get one of these as I've said but this really is retarded.

Very amusing watching how people try and justify it to themselves though, keep them coming. :p

I'm a huge fanboi, and I have to agree that Steve telling people they're holding the phone wrong or dont hold it like that is totally condescending...

I believe they are having major growing pains, Mac Pro faults, iMac screen faults, production delays, releasing the iPad when quite clearly they had not psychically made enough...and now this!

The story is actually on BBC news at six too....

:/

so erm, what's the problem again guys? Not only do I not suffer any problems, but I get FULL signal in my house  something not even cheap phones can manage :D

Apple were on Watchdog the other week with regards to the 3g, 3Gs. Apple were refusing to repair phones under warranty because they were citing water damage. The phone has something in it that detects water and changes colour, think of it a bit like litmus paper I suppose, you get the idea.

It turns out the thing can change colour to indicate water damage even if the phone has not been exposed to water.

Please lets just ....for once ....admit this simple fact. Not all Apple products are perfect !

Sadly that is the game that ALL manufacturers are in when trying to complete at the bleeding edge.

So... Steve... stop trying to spin this one... and just do the decent thing and refund any customers who are not happy with your half-baked solution that folk need to change the way that they hold their b***dy phones.

Metheringham, I should have said village really :D

Ah, I live in Ruskington, just down the road from you :p

Did you get it from the O2 shop in Lincoln? Their website says they have stock but I dont have a contract with them already so I cant get one :( (Although I am meant to be waiting, which I cant bear)

No mate I Pre ordered from the apple store. If you live in ruskington and like IT you must know the loan gunmen?

The who? :p

I guess I'll wait and see what happens over the next few days and if Apple make any more statements, but I still do want one.

Far from happy about it though!

Got my phone yesterday.
had some reception issues, apparently I was holding the phone in an incorrect manner:rolleyes:

This morning I switched it off to change SIM and now it wont switch back on:confused:

Here is my experience with the new iPhone 4. I picked mine up yesterday and as soon as I got it home and started using it properly I noticed that it kept losing signal, however at the time I put this down to the fact that my number was currently being transferred between sim cards.

My number has now transferred and I am still having the same problem, after reading this thread I think I'm suffering the same issue as a lot of other people on here. At home I get a very good 3G signal on my old iPhone 3G and if I put my new iPhone 4 down on the desk I get the same. However, if I pick my new Phone up and hold it with my left hand, for example when writing a text message, by the time I have finished typing the signal has slowly dropped down to "searching" and it isn't possible to send the message. I had the same problem at work whilst browsing the internet using 3G. I get a very good 3G signal at work and have been using my iPhone 3G for the previous 18 months without any problems.

I have seen Apple's advice about holding the phone differently, however I don't think this is an acceptable solution on such an expensive phone, or any phone for that matter. Neither will I be purchasing a bumper case from Apple as I do not like the look and also I have read online that they cannot be used with the official Apple dock.

I have decided that if Apple have not come up with a more reasonable solution by the end of next week I will be returning my phone for a refund. I purchased my phone directly from apple on an O2 upgrade contract. Does anyone know if it is possible to revert back to my old phone and contract temporarily whilst I look for another phone? Or will I need to cancel my contract completely and lose my mobile phone number?
