*** iPhone 5 - Revealed! ***

can't believe i'm doing this again...did it for the 4, the disappointing 4s, the ipad 3 and now this. Need to get a ASBO to ban me from buying any more apple products!

Same :/

The way I justify it in my head is that I can get probably at least £300 for my 4S, so it's 'only' £300 for an upgrade

There is another iPhone 5 thread in the mobile and tablet forum basically slating it.

You really can't beat the app support which is the main reason I'm going back to an iPhone from a Samsung gn, I liked andriod but never got on well with its app store and didn't use the NFC or make use of its customisations.

I will be pre ordering in the morning.

There is basically no point ever posting anything Apple-related in the phone/tablet forum.

Speaking of NFC - http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/13/isis-nfc-mobile-payments-delayed-past-september-target/

More fail, be ages till NFC is even close to mainstream. As someone says in the comments, Passbook will be used because laser scanners are ubiquitous and they can get it rolling right away.

Anyone heard anything about Everything Everywhere 4G Contracts? I want to decide whether to pre-order the handset SIM free from Apple tomorrow and then stick in an EE SIM Only contract, or whether to wait a couple of weeks and then get the handset and contract though EE.

I work in London (placement year), and am at Uni in Bristol, and they're both 4G launch cities... and everywhere else I'd be happy with 21mb HSPA.

I imagine there's no point in taking out a new Orange/T-Mobile contract as they won't map over to EE's prices perfectly and you'll be having to resign... though if they do my pick of the current bunch is T-Mobile SIM only 600mins 5000texts 1.5GB data (including tethering) £23.00/12months.

Just been thinking...

The new connector doesn't support analogue audio out, which the vast majority of existing audio docks make use of, and also many car kits/adapters. It's a neat solution which allows a single connector to power/charge the device and also carry the audio signal.

With the new connector this won't be possible. I presume audio out will be available in a digital format, which will allow existing accessory manufacturers to adapt their products, but with existing equipment you're going to have a problem.

I note that Apple does day there's no "iPod Out" on the adapter they're selling but this is in very small print and I doubt many will notice. How many people are going to buy the adapter, thinking they can use it to connect their new iPhone or iPod Touch to their existing equipment, only to find they get no sound?

Now the only way to get analogue audio out is via the headphone jack and I'm starting to wonder whether this is the real reason Apple moved it to the bottom of the device. Could we see an adapter, either from Apple or third-parties, which connects to both the headphone and Lightning sockets and 'merges' them into an old-style dock connector, thus allowing existing kit to work?

 at car USB not working!
