*** iPhone 5 - Revealed! ***

Just orded with three will be here on Friday.

£89 for the phone (32gb)

£39 a month for loads of calls and texts plus unlimited data and tethering.

As the wifi in my flat dies once every month the tethering makes sense for me.

Not as good, generally, but it's not too bad.

Anyone have experience with Three's customer service?

I'm thinking about going with Three on a 24 month £42PM for the 64GB IPhone 5 @ £109 which seems like a real steal.

Do i need to think about 4G or is that not even worth worrying about?

So, now that the iPhone 5 pre-orders are up, EE’s been in touch to clarify the rather clear-as-mud situation concerning Orange and T-Mobile and grabbing 4G service on EE’s new LTE network for the iPhone 5, or any other 4G-capable phone. Here’s the lowdown, but the long and short of it is, go with 3G on EE’s legacy networks and then swap when 4G’s available.

Essentially what EE’s saying is that you should sign up with Orange or T-Mobile right now. You’ll then be able to break your 3G-only contract and swap to a 4G contract, essentially upgrading to a new EE plan. If your price per month on the new EE 4G plans is the same or more than your old 3G-only plan, then the upgrade will cost you nothing. If not, well, there’ll be some sort of upgrade fee. No doubt you’ll also have to sign your life away for a further two-years, but that’s the price you pay for being on the bleeding edge.

That doesn’t mean the price plans will be the same though, so expect some inherent cost in going 4G. I suspect like-for-like plans will be more expensive on 4G, or you’ll just have swallow less minutes, texts and data. Unfortunately we don’t know exactly how much this is all going to cost you, but we’ll let you know the moment we do.

The problem is that if you sign a two year contract with Orange/T-Mobile, when 4G gets legally challenged, or you realise the coverage is rubbish, or you realise how badly their 4G plans are (extra £10/month I heard), there’s nothing you can do about it, because there’s nothing in your contract about 4G...

Jeremy Hunt managed to get the other carriers not to take out legal action about EE's 4G for a month (FT link) while talks are held, and in return EE will not actually deliver a service for a few more weeks... but what if they then manage to block it?

I'm sitting here trying not to click on the Three 32GB Works package, so tempting...

Can't decide between a) 3, b) Wait for O2 pricing c) Buy unlocked in a month or so

I like being with O2 as their international data capping outside Europe is insanely handy (50MB for £40) and to my knowledge 3 don't do such a package?

At the moment, not really. I'd only consider 4G to be important if I used my phone to tether a lot - which I don't.

If you are in a prime 4G coverage spot, with unlimited data, you could use your phone as your main internet source (if it's faster than your landline for example).

Edit: as ps3ud0 has mentioned below, 4G will be rubbish if it has a 1GB cap, fast 3G will be just as useful in that situation.

I can only assume 4G will have unlimited data as standard, or it all starts to become rather pointless.

As far as Im concerned 4G is pointless if the current bandwidth caps are maintained. Glad Ive done what Ive done and will wait til the other networks bring it out and potentially compete on price and features...

ps3ud0

Right so i can forget that for the moment then. I am based just outside London or just outside Manchester city centre.

So the Three deal looks like the one to go for, im tempted to wait for o2 to release there price plans but going on previous years im thinking that's pointless.

Any drawbacks with going with Three, ive been with o2 for the last 7 years so feels strange to switch :p

So instead of having to queue up at stupid o'clock providers are actually taking pre-orders this year? Come on o2!!!!!!

Looking after there customers

I'm with Orange and out of contract on my iPhone 4. If I buy the iPhone 5 from Apple unlocked, how do I get my current Orange plan to work with it seeing as it's now a Nano sim? Will Orange send me one and transfer my mobile number to it?

I just ordered the 16Gb black from Apple, I was a bit slow though, had a lot on my mind.

I'm still in contract with Voda and will switch to Sim only when it ends.

I didn't see an option to add a Nano Sim, will I have to call Voda?

Contact Orange and explain the situation, they will probably send you out a Nano sim and transfer your number on to it. I am not sure if they will charge you or not. In theory the shouldn't but you will have to call and check.

All the Voda 12 month contracts have the exact same overall cost, you may as well go for the most expensive one, unless you're a bit crap at managing money :p

Orange stating 10 days before they will have nano sims

Just done some simple maths on my current tariff and potential tariff:
Currently on 3 one plan rolling monthly at about £25. If I purchase iPhone 5 16gb that's £530 plus £25 x 24 months = £1130
New 3 tariff for iPhone 5: £36 x 24 plus £79 = £943

Think I'll upgrade to new tariff...
