One thing im confused about is do we need to wait till xmas for LTE 4G enabeled S3/iphone5 phones to enjoy the new 4G network due soon ?
if your going by the coverage checker map on the three site, it says i have poor indoor coverage at my house but I get a constant 4 bars plus in every room. and its a fairly big house.
Been an iPhone fan since day 1 but just seen the new ip5 on click. Does it really need to be the size of a brick??? Will they make mini version?

It's only marginally taller than the iPhone 4 and nearly 2mm thinner.
Here's a comparison next to the tablet computer the Samsung Galaxy S3.
Do we have prospective dates when the other networks are likely to release 4G? And obviously the expected launch coverage?
Considering 4G is a simpler upheaval than 3G was Im hoping moving to 90%+ coverage should be relatively quick (i.e. a year) - its not like they have to build new masts just convert the existing ones AFAIK (my understanding is that 4G penetrates better than 3G and also covers a wider area per mast so converting all existing masts should produce similar if not better coverage than 3G currently does with the practical improvements 4G brings - just how quickly that happens and the investment challenges rather than the logisitically ones is what I expect determine the timelines)
Just thinking that it be nice this time next year to pick up the iP5S with full 4G LTE support and actually have reasons to need it then and there - something like that would make me move from the iP5 and 3G+ situation Ill be now in...

Oh agreed but looking at expected 4G coverage and then prospective iP5 buyers the vast majority still will be buying the phone just on 3G+. Im just trying to consider if this time next year that answer will be more that people are getting the new one to use it for 4G. Really upto the networks to get their finger out...So the problem with 4g and the iPhone 5 put simply,
The spectrum the uk model iPhone 5 can use is owned by EE and the spectrum everyone else can bid for is not supported by the iPhone 5.
So if you want LTE on the iPhone 5 you need to be on EE
Three own some of the spectrum from EE so they can turn on 4g for the iPhone 5 but only in September 2013.
Unless apple do what they have in America and bring out another iPhone for 02 and vodafone or EE sells some of its spectrum you will not be able to use an iPhone 5 on LTE with anyone other then EE or Three
No doubt O2/Vodafone will be after 800Mhz in a big way - I just hope 4G reduces the potential signal degradation when you are on a higher frequency especially indoors...Ofcom are doing the auction for the spectrum in 2013, so I'd expect the networks to be launching it in late 2013.
With regards to coverage, no other carriers have said everything but there's the 98% coverage obligation they've all been given by Ofcom. This will probably make the 800MHz frequency more popular at auction than the 2600MHz frequency, due to its better range and penetration into buildings.

Guys, has anyone here upgraded on O2, what sort of prices were you charged (either 32 or 64gb)?
Im due an upgrade but i hope I'm misreading the cost.
This iPhone 5 will not run on LTE for any other network.
Assuming you're going to be on an Everything Everywhere contract (as the iPhone 5 doesn't support the frequencies that the other carriers will do their 4G on when they finally launch in 2013):
So the frequencies it supports LTE on are 2100 MHz, 1800 MHz, 850 MHz. http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/.
Everything Everywhere are launching their early 4G on 1800MHz.
When the Ofcom auction happens next year for the other networks that's going to be 800MHz and 2600MHz... So the current iPhone 5 handsets will never do LTE on anything apart from Everything Everywhere!
We know ic0n , we are just speculating if the networks will be ready for the next release when realistically it should fully support all 4G LTE bands, not the concern that effectively the iP5 is a (unpaid) 4G exclusive to EE...
