What about the whole, contract thing, I dont think 02 is any good is it? and could I get a contract, get the sim and then just put it into the iphone?

What would be best?

once it's jailbreak-ed, you can put in any sim except on the 3 network.

No its just i heard of people plugging them in to itunes and it puts a new firmware on and bricks it. This doesnt happen anymore?

When I got mine, I used Ziphone to 'do it all', then found it was running 1.1.2. I updated it using iTunes, which of course locked it again, then I unlocked it again. It worked fine, but...

...Have since read that this isn't the best way to do it. When my friend bought an iPhone, I told him to use Ziphone to 'prepare for update' or whatever that option is. This basically put the phone into recovery mode and allowed iTunes to do a full restore - part of that process is to get the latest firmware. Only then did he unlock it - this way sounds better to me as it only involves one jailbreak/unlock.

No because I dont HAVE a contract sim. I have a PAYG.

Its great, better than my previous phones APART from signal as it sometimes decides to only have 1-bar and then full signal in the same place.

I have already explained this.

I dont want to use my PAYG sim card, I want to get a contract now I'll have regular money, but I dont want to go on 02 as they suck and dont do the tarrifs I want. I wanted to know if I could go to carphone warehouse or something, say I just want a contract, no phone, just the sim, buy the iPhone and then unlock it, then put the contracted sim in it once activated.

That's a bit clearer. Sim only deals are mainly online - e.g. O2 Simplicity. Orange do one too, as do most others.

CPW would just try and flog you a phone, I'd imagine.
