iphone down to £169

Myself and gumbald both bought the Monster iSoniTalk adaptor, works in the same way as the Shure but the advantage is that your own headphones connect at the base of the adaptor, rather than at the microphone, so you don't end up with a hugely long cable. The downside is that, because the mic is on a separate cable, the plug that connects to the phone is quite bulky. Reckon there are downsides to both options, compared with the stock headphones, but the sound quality you get from a good pair of headphones makes up for this in my opinion.

To Nick, nothing to stop you contacting apple about the headphones, they might just post you a replacement set. But if they need you to return the whole package, and you've unlocked the iPhone, i wouldn't say it was worth it.

Shure headphones are modular - there is no long cable. Even left dangling, the microphone is still placed (almost) ideally for speaking into it (manual says 6-12" from your mouth).

EDIT: I realise that this basically means you have to buy the Shure heaphones too, meaning the total package amounts to in excess of £100. But hey(!)

Yeah I appreciate that, I personally have a pair of Bose in-ear headphones that aren't modular, so it's definitely worth saying that what headphones you have determines what adaptor you should go for.

One alternative would just be to leave that account set up on your phone with the o2 SMTP server, so you know you can send an email when out? Presumably when youre at home, you send emails using your computer? This is how I've set up an imap account of mine that doesnt have a dedicated SMTP server.

See I tried this... one account (named NTL) with NTLworld - POP and SMTP
The other account (named O2) with NTLWorld - POP and O2 - SMTP

But when I go into the mail section, and then select the accounts, both accounts default to one name i.e. both are labelled O2.

And when I go back into the settings of both... they are exactly the same :|

What I meant was for you to set up only the one instance of the account, but use the O2 SMTP server so that you can send e-mail when out and about. I presumed that when you are at home, you'd be sending emails from your computer rather than your phone.

Why not sign up for Google if you haven't already, and try using the google SMTP server. I know this isn't the same thing, but when I send email from an alternative address using the Gmail interface, when that email is received Outlook displays it as From: NAME ([email protected] on behalf of [email protected]). Dunno if the phone will do the same but it's maybe worth a try.

Ah I see what you mean. You make a valid point I guess :) If Im at home I would check email from my PC.
But sometimes I wouldnt be near my PC so thats when I would like to receive the emails via my WiFi.

Also the other thing is I dont have a big data package at the moment (but this maybe rectified soon - as I am using the phone for business purposes).

Will consider this.

Fair point, one thing I would say is that you can still check your email on your phone through Wifi regardless of whether the SMTP server works or not, this only governs whether email can be sent.

I reckon a good data package is vital to use the phone properly, without trying I've downloaded 3Megs since I got my O2 Simplicity Sim a couple of days ago.

Ah sorry I meant to say check & send emails out :)

Yep definitely gonna look into this. What bolt ons are there at the moment with O2?

(I think its either a £7.50 bolt on or a £30 one no?)

If you go for a Simplicity tariff of £25p/m or more, you get the option of a free unlimited web bolt on. Otherwise yeah, I think it's £7.50 p/m to add it to an existing tariff.

Have any of you bought multiple iPhones before?

I have bought an iPhone before from an o2 store. Will I be able to go in again and buy another 1+ with the same card I used the last time? Or even go to a CPW store?

The limit used to be 2 per card, but since the price drop it's 1 per card per shop.

I expect you will have trouble finding one though, you will have to go to a CPW store.

My mate has just got an iPhone and he loves it.

One problem he needs help on is his contacts. I used iSim on it to get his sim contacts onto the iPhone but now when he receives a call, sometimes it shows the phone number instead of the name in the phonebook.

Has anyone had this problem? If so how did you fix it?

Thanks allot.
