Iphone OS 3.0...

Sure, but the fact that every other phone out there has these features is testimony to the fact that the majority of people want them.

That is a bit of a leap of faith on your part, you are assuming people don't do what they always do and think more MP is better, in fact the iPhone's picture quality has been proven to be better just by adding an additional lens to help sharpen things up, additionally a proper glass lens would go a long way to improving it, but overall a nicer sensor would be good to, a good Sony low noise job.

Phones don't have to suck at it. The iPhone sucks at it, sure. But the Nokia N95, N96, Blackberry bold certainly don't.

It doesn't suck because its not a sat nav.

GPS != Sat Nav/TomTom. The phone has Google Maps which uses GPS to find your location and directions not as a navigation system, this is because Google don't licence their map data for turn by turn and its not stored on the phone so is only good when your actually in 3G range.

10:22AM "Now there is one more thing we're doing with maps. We're enabling developers to use core location for turn by turn directions." Again, finally!

BOOM

10:23AM "Now there is one catch -- bring your own maps. Due to licensing, we can't use those tiles in maps." So turn by turn is coming.

/me facepalms

Push notifications. No actual background processing due to battery life - gonna annoy some. But a step forward.

"To be perfectly clear, this means no background processing yet. Just push notifications."
