iRacing

Anybody running the Star Mazda? I need to run some C class so I can do GT3 next season, but the RUF C-Spec is just an understeery, spinning on throttle piece of cack, which I find rather rage inducing. Is the SM any better this season with the new tyres? I'm hoping it's just a more powerful skippy.

I don't have it, but I'm sure someone said it was the worst car in iRacing a few pages back.

But as you say the NTM might have made a big difference.

Yeah I heard it was rubbish before the NTM, but apparently it's better now. I just don't want to drop money on a car that I won't get on with - aka the RUF.

I really wish you could test all cars, but only be able to race them once you purchase them.

You might be better of in the Radical. It's a bit of a handful, but if you're a seasoned Skippy driver then you'll be ok.

At least the Ruf you bought has more than one variation, one of which is very nice to drive at least.

Oh ffs :( first race of the season for me in the C Spec at watkins glen, lap 5 i tagged the wall on the outside of the S's nothing major, black and orange flag wheel damage....right....im still doing 1:13's stable under braking and nothing seemingly wrong, so carried on, then got DQ'ed for not pitting - perfectly stable and driveable car running in 3rd and DQ'd :( thats going to hurt my newly promoted B class.

I've suffered the same thing last season.

I also had wheel damage at Bathurst, last season, without hitting a single thing. Checked the replay from every angle and I definitely didn't make any contact.

Sound advice. Having looked to continue from the Skippy, I've ended up with both the Radical and the Mazda. I'm not experienced at either, but I'[d say that the Radical has far more substance to it than the Mazda.

Ta, I'm going to try the RUF a bit more before I completely give up on it. I've spent the money so don't want to waste it. It just feels so different from pretty much any car I've driven in any game that I'm struggling somewhat.

I got a few pointers to work on, otherwise I'll give the Radical a go :)

After a good session last night managed to get down into the 1:06's without a draft. But my god I stand by my first statement the Z4 is miles faster than the RUF and MP4 here. I saw people I races with last season hitting 1:05's with no frigin drag. The RUF would need two extra turbos added to the car to hit that time. Z4 is more powerful, less weight and what seems an easier car to drive = lightning speed. I really don't see any cons in the car.

So yer 2.5 seconds off the WR time over a 1 minute lap. Seems balanced to me.
Something is up the Z4 should not be beating the MP4 at the Glenn and shouldn't be bombing past the RUF like its stood still on the straights.
A fast RUF driver vs an average Z4 driver the Z4 driver is going to win 9 times out of 10. That's crap for the series. Basically buy the Z4 or struggle all season.

I'm done at WG Oval Racing anyway I managed to score some good points last night, luckly avoiding the yanks who think there driving Nascar. By the end of teh race I was driving a car that looked like it had an argument with a baseball bat and lost.

So thats the MX5 they have wrecked, GT3 wrecked due to terrible balance. All they need to do now is wreck the Radical and Ill be forced to drive some American crap.

When you say they wrecked the MX5, do you mean it's horrible to drive?

I've only recently signed up and my first couple of races were in the MX5 at LRP - and I found it hideous to drive. I've only driven that and and Spec Racer Ford and the Ford is 100 times better balanced IMO.

I managed a 1:06.8 without a draught in the Z4 last night.

I have to say I thought it felt a little bit more skittish, compared to the absolutely planted feeling in pre season practice.

I will agree that it is faster in my hands than the other two GT cars, so it must be faster for everyone else. I wouldn't say its pay to win though, most drivers with the licence to drive in the GT3 series will more likely have bought any new content anyway. Whether they intended to race it or not.

It was the same last season in the Ruf. At the start there were hardly any MP4's in races, but as the season went on they came back.

Basically yes. 2 or so builds ago it was perfect. Every update since its got worse and worse. Though the low speed grip is much improved. Its very hard to drive now at anything over 30mph. The MX5 used to be my favorite car but somethings just not right with it now. Hopefully I-racing give it some love in the next few builds.

My girlfriend has had two and uses them every day in all weathers but snow, touch wood shes never got a real life 2x or 4x in them. If she drove the I-racing version everyday i'd need to fit a roll cage to her everyday drive.

I haven't purchased it and like I said I wont be I don't see the point to have 3 cars in one series. But if I want to compete this season unless things drastically change next week at Mossport unless your driving the Z4 or bleed green your going to be getting wooped by people a lot slower than you.

I'm currently sat with the 18th fastest time of the week so far in the RUF at the Glenn and as you know in cars I put time into I'm pretty fast. But the way those Z4's was swarming me down the straight last night in the 1am race then just dropping me through the sweepers. No matter what I do to my setup here I cant get the turn in the Z4 gets. I'm also running a 1 wing and removed the 10mm thingy. So I'm at the limit of how much speed I can get out of her. I dare you to go run a 30 minute race in the RUF with a 1 wing with a field of Z4's all over you and still keep it on the road. I can clearly drive the RUF I can also drive the MP4 pretty fast.

Your 0.1 off my PB with a Z4 punching the air for me all the way down the straight and I was driving the hell out of her into the sweepers and T1. No doubt you was drinking a cup a tea reading the news paper and driving 1 handed on that 1:06 :D

I'm starting to sound like I'm moaning here but I'm not Its just I finally thought I-racing had got a proper series with cars everyone can drive. But they keep wrecking it by making the new car better in every way. Last season unless you bleed green you had to buy the RUF to compete, This season its buy the Z4 or prepare to be frustrated.

The MP4 and RUF seem much more balanced this season. But the Z4 is miles ahead. I really don't agree with the statement everyone has purchased the Z4 so that's ok to make it unrealistic. Everyone hasn't and that's no excuse to screw over the two other cars and people who want to drive those. I like the the RUF its grown on me and really like the MP4 I'd like to drive those two cars.

In the real GT3 the MP4 is the fastest at the speed traps and the Z4 makes it up through the twisty stuff. That's how it should be in I-Racing with the RUF sat in the middle.

I'm starting to think that maybe iRacing have deliberately made each new GT3 car a little better than the previous one, just so they can sell more content.

Maybe I'm a cynical old so and so, but it does seem a bit of a coincidence.

I get what ya saying I don't think it's a "faster" car then the RUF but the Z4 feels so much more planted to the road then the other two. I feel a lot more confident driving the Z. But in saying that if you have AC they also have the Z4 and the Macca GT3 cars and it's the same thing. I can't match my times in that sim either, I guess zee Germans know how to build a car lol

Was planning on doing a season in the C-Spec but after putting in 4 hours practice I'm not too sure about it. Don't know what Iracing have done to that car but I think it's un drivable.

Benhaha get the radical, racing is by far better then the star Mazda series and it's well supported by your club

Theres the seasons results for the British GT 2013 for example Rockingham

Qualifying Results
1# Porsche 997 GT3 R : Average Speed 89.3 mph
2# Porsche 997 GT3 R : Average Speed 89.2 mph
3# Porsche 997 GT3 R : Average Speed 89.2 mph
4# Mclaren MP412C : Average Speed 88.8 mph
5# BMW Z4 GT3 : Average Speed 88.7mph

Now it doesn't come much closer than that 0.584 seconds seperated 1-5th and less than 0.5 mph
Over the season the results was mixed I didnt pick Rockingham because the 997 as 1-3 but its a track that as a bit of everything and shows how close all 3 cars can be.
The 2013 season also shows that have a look.

Heres a link to the whole season results Q and R as you will see the results are very mixed but the top cars are always very close The 997 and Z4 had the most backing through the 2013 season but as the results show the other teams more than matched them. The MP4 didn't have a big team backing but did well at quite a few events. On its day and in the right hands more than a match for the BMW, Porsche, Mercedes and Audi teams.

Hopefully we can get a decent discussion about this over here as the yanks always spoil it on the main board. Once the seasons settled and we have had chance to tune some setups we should have a OCUK test session with the 3 different cars at a track like SPA and Oulten Park or Zandvoort to test it in an environment where yanks are banned :D

Can anyone recommend a decent private league for GT3? I got so fed up of the standard of driving a few months ago I stopped using iracing altogether. Decided to start up again for the new season and in my first race I'm wiped out by someone diving down the inside of about 3 cars on lap 2 then later after pitting nearing the end of the race there's a guy sat on the racing line going up the hill taking 2 of us out.

I'm by no means the quickest driver but I know how to race clean and have a little patience, I think a private league would at least eliminate the complete idiots

How about the OCUK GT3 Gentleman's CUP :D

I'd be up for a weekly - bi weekly friendly drive in the GT3's if someone wants to set something up. We could Mirror the offical series helping each other build a set for the officals. Or make our own up I'm easy. We would need around 10+ drivers to make it interesting.

I'd be in if I wasn't on the other side of the world :(

Looks like I'm going to have to move back to the UK, racing in Oz sucks haha
