iRacing

I'm thinking of building a separate sim PC so I can actually still use my PC when my daughter wants to play crashing and parking in iRacing lol

What the minimum GPU I'd need for 1080p single screen with say an anniversary pentium CPU?

Cheers

Ordered my Obutto Revolution with triple screen arms and the table tops from the EU site.

Mixed feelings at the moment.

Looking forward to getting it in early April, but it was pointless applying and getting the Halifax Clarity card. When I got to the end of the checkout process the payment options were bank transfer or PayPal.

Using my credit card to pay with PayPal bumped the price up to £730 delivered instead of £680 if I'd have been able to use my credit card. This was down to a 3.5% fee added at the checkout by Obutto and the rest is the difference between MasterCard's exchange rate and PayPal's.

I still think it's comparable to the price I'd have paid buying from the UK site anyway.

Roll on April.

Thanks.

It'll be a nice birthday present to myself. See if the wife fancies buying me the SimXpperience AccuForce wheel to go with it. Although that's an even longer wait than the Obutto or a Fanatec V2 wheel base.

I've been closely watching that Accuforce thread and the owner seems like an American knob jockey so I'm holding out for a while.

More likely to go for the Fanatec V2 Wheel base. Since I already have the V2 pedals and getting the Fanatec wheel base means I'llbe able use my gear on consoles as well.

Even if Fanatec announced a direct drive wheel today, it would be another year before you could buy one. Plus you'd be better off waiting for their V2 direct drive wheel if previous Fanatec hardware launches are anything to go by.

I did two races in the Skippy at Suzuka last week and got wrecked both times. First one was a guy trying to overtake me on the outside, on the grass on the approach to 130R. Genius.

The second saw me fail to avoid the same guy for a third time in as many corners. He went wide at spoon, so I braked to avoid his poor attempt at rejoining the track. He then went wide at 130R and again I slowed. Then he collected someone else into the final chicane and was rejoined the track, driving like Stevie Wonder and hit me. I got bumped into the pit entry and stopped side on. As I struggled to do a fifty point turn, between the Armco, someone literally drove over me to get into the pits.

This was in the top split on a Sunday evening.

I can see Lime Rock being even worse if the practice sessions are anything to go by.

Selling my T500 pedals in the MM, if anyone has a T300 or TX wheel they want a better set of pedals for.

This is something I've always wondered about this game. Everyone pays their right to play this game, but do bad drivers get punished?

There's a safety rating system, which determines what racing series you can and cannot enter. If you drive clean, the higher your safety rating, and vice versa.

No one is punished as such, unless you are intentionally wrecking people, then you'll get banned.

I did a couple of skippy races on Saturday and they went a lot better than yours it seems :p

I only did a few laps (<10) beforehand but meh, who needs practice...

First race I started 8th after doing a 2:05.1xx iirc in qualifying, ranked 5th, finished 5th. But wasn't quite as smooth as that :p on lap two I was battling with someone, he had the inside to T1/T2 but I was ahead going into them, by the time we exited T2 he cut across my nose close enough for it to be a 0x, so I was right behind him going into the chicane which he screwed up and as I had left no room for error I tapped him. He slid a bit but was fine, I spun without hitting anything and rejoined somewhere near the back. After that it was fine though :p

Second race was much smoother, did a much better 2:04.5xx in qualifying, stronger field so I started 11th, ranked 10th and finished 8th. This one pretty smooth sailing, few battles here and there, 4 incidents but all just 1x's.

So yeah, not terrible at least :p

I wasn't sure I'd like the qualifying in the same session as the race but it works

Its better than before I think.

You don't get the faster drivers who don't qualify attempting overtaking in silly places anymore. They just start in front of you now.

I just end up at the back now at the start and have to hope for drivers to trip over each other and drop out for me to move up the field. Especially at Suzuka last week, I was a good 3 seconds off, normally I'm less than 2. I seem to be closer at Lime Rock than usual, even though I'm not a fan and hardly ever turn laps there.

I seem to have very big ups and downs with regards to tangling with other drivers. In the last two weeks of last season I got my SR up from around 1.7 back to over 3.5.

It's very track dependant I find. Some tracks it's easy to avoid the nutters, but at others it isn't. I think as a general rule of thumb, if I can lap a track well and cleanly on my own, then I tend to gain or maintain SR. if it's a difficult track for me then I tend to loose SR.

I guess it's still a very active and large community then? I think tonight I will purchase the 2 year membership, they currently have 50% off all memberships and it's very tempting.

I'd always recommend trying it for a month or 3 before diving in with a 2 year sub, once you're sure it's for you then the 2 year subs when they're doing the 50% off deals are the way to go (think mine runs out 2016, should probably check somewhen :p) but could be a waste of money as it's not for everyone, and worth reiterating they also charge for content, which makes it an expensive proposition.

Yeah barmy, if the track is somewhere you comfortable it does make things easier, I find Road Atlanta is probably my nemesis, never been comfortable around there and always find myself screwing up or getting involved in incidents. Suzuka I find ok, It's not my most competitive but the actual track is easy enough and I do enjoy driving there.

I actually really like Lime Rock as well, although that's very much survive at the start, just maintain position for the majority of the race and then maybe go for something mental at the end :D

How often do they do these? When was the last time they did this for it's current subscribers?

I know about the extra content, I don't have issues with that. Afterall I've sunk this same amount of money into HoTS (Heroes of The Storm)

It definitely seems like a very interesting game, I've played / play Raceroom on Steam, and I just feel that the races aren't good enough. They never have enough people and then it doesn't feel like a race. Just people racing around spinning all over. I have played various games before like Live For Speed so I'm looking for that competitive edge that will not only help me improve, but provide some breath taking races.
